hey,
i have been searching the net for a while on this subject, so i thought i would give this question a go here..
when i play a game on my alienware, and want to ajust the volume while i'm in the game, i get an onscreen display of the volume level AFTER it minimalizes the game...this has been getting very annoying, considering i think i have looked everywhere to disable it..
is there any way to disable this indicator without messing with my overall alienware o.s.d.?
thanks!

That's a great question, I have noticed the same annoying behavior. There are other issues with the OSD app as well, I have problems with the DVD eject being ignored while in an app which is using the drive.
It would be nice if it were a configurable utility. -
Bungled, ¿do you have R2 or R3?, cause thats doesn't happen to me on my R2, i can adjust the volume in game without that "crash"

its an r3...

sorry to double post but...really? nobody knows? i know there are alot of talented and knowlegable people on these forums, somebody must know and/or find it just as annoying as me.

I tried looking for command line parameters on the AWOSD executable but found nothing.
One thought I had was to stop the process before firing up the game and controlling the sound only in the game. Not sure if the game has volume control capability, but you could set the appropriate volume, kill the process, switch back to the game.
The process is started in the startup registry key. You can disable the auto start in msconfig or just kill the process using task manager before you play. -
its messed that i have too go so far as to kill it in the task manager...though it sounds tempting, it would mess with my other o.s.d. as well...damn you whoever programed this thing!

a quote from dookie's review thread.
"One thing that’s annoying though, and this is a software issue, is that when you click volume up or down while in a game, it minimizes your screen cuz there’s an on-screen indicator window that pops up to show your increase/decrease. This happened in my hp, and I eventually uninstalled the program. So by default, your R3 will do this, and you’re gonna get pissed. Don’t fret though, as there’s hardly any lag when this happens, simply cuz our computers are SO FREEKIN FAST" -
and...this is supposed to help me how? how do i uninstall alienware O.S.D.? or are you just saying "deal with it"?
