I'm assuming you're on the m17x R3 - did you switch from your IGP to your ATI card using FN + F7?

ok do this, take out the battery, and also take out the cmos battery (coin looking thingy on the mobo) then press power button for 20 sec. then reboot see if the bios see the ati card. remember to reset your bios setting since they all revert back to stock settings.

Could you do FN + F7 and tell us which GPU the computer wants to switch to? Also, can you right-click your desktop and select Graphic Properties and tells us what pops up?

You may want to run the diagnostics tool on your computer and call up Dell then. To run the diagnostics tool:

    1. Start up your computer. (Restart if you have to)
    2. At the Alien Head screen, press F12 to go into the Boot Options menu.
    3. Select Diagnostics

This test can take up to an hour to run. It will run thorough tests for your entire machine and will produce a report on whatever is fine or wrong with your machine. If there is something wrong, it will indicate an error message with a code to give to Alienware tech support.

    sandy bridge is the cpu/igp.
its not showing up in the bios so its not a driver issue.

hmm strange. try reseating your new card, then do the power drain one more time.

Hm. Well, if you did install it correctly, and your BIOS isn't detecting it, then maybe you received a dud?

Yeah, that's a good idea. If it works, I'd suggest trying the ATI again and see what happens.

NVM - just read your BIOS doesn't detect it.

What BIOS version do you have? Do you have A04, or the soon to be A05?

No offence Ch0bo42, but though the guys tried their best to help you in fixing your new card issue, you are still a baby. If you had a friend knowledgeable in the field, he would have probably saved you the 2-3 weeks wait…

Maybe you should try reseating the card.It happened to me after i did repasting, system did not recognize any hardware & prcoceeded to install generic VGA drivers instead.I opened it up & reseat the card & everything was back to normal.
