    So do you guys think it will be worth it to upgrade my aging M17xR1 from Nvidia 260m (SLI) to ATI HD mobility 4870 (crossfire). Will I see much of an improvement when paying games. And does the 4870's beat the 280m's?

    You won't see a huge improvement, but you will see some. Try upgrading to 5870m's instead. There's a thread here about how to do it for a R1.
