    Hello alex9010,
Well... if you're having issues with the 1080p display. I can only assume two thing:
-The Display is not compatible with your computer. (This would be an Mx17 R3 or R4?)
-The Display is the one that is causing the issue (May be defective).

But as you said, the computer itself works with the old 900p display. Let me know what Revision number this is so I can give you a more accurate hypothesis.

So you were able to fix it?
Did you do anything special aside from those reboots for the picture to come clear, please share it with us.
How is it looking inside of Windows?

Sounds like a defective screen to me , especially if it works just fine with the stock display back in there. I would contact the seller and explain the screen is defective and have them send you a new one. The screens, provided you have the correct part number for your system should be completely plug and play and work with no tricks. Chances are maybe there is a bad connection in there and after so many restarts it may work until it is again powered off and them bam, back to FUBAR it goes.

    hello all
i just realize that the new display (the one with problems) have one cable and a little panel that the old (working one) dosent have here a few pic so u can see what i mean

here you can see that new connector that the 1080p has and the 900p dont have
    CONECTOR NUEVO.jpg

here is that panel under the alien head logo in the back
    COSA NUEVA.jpg

and here is a panoramic pic of both screen
    PANORAMICA.jpg

u can see the new display has something else.. maybe is that connector the one causing problems? should i try to disconnect it and put it back on my laptop and check? or that connector dosent mean anything?

btw that cable has a label its name is PAR00_ALIEN_BADGE_CABLE P/N DC02001B000

EDIT: the first pic, the name are wrong the new display is in the left and the old one, the working one is in the right

EDIT2: i found that part in a website here is the link
    http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/72-76015-20482/Dell-Alienware-M17x-R3-Various-Item.html

EDIT3: i just tried that new panel and cable with my old display and is working fine.. so the problem is still something in the new display..

I'm wondering if they have sent you a 3D panel? Those extra parts look like the 3D emitter and board. It connects to a different port on the MB and shouldn't work at all but maybe this is what happened?

Are you moving the panel between attempts? My engineer managed to break my panel cable when changing the MB and he was careful. But then you'd think you would have the same problem on the old panel .

A faulty panel is the only option that makes sense to me

Edit: Just saw your latest post. I don't understand why your original does not have that board but it is obviously nothing to do with 3D :(

It could work, I thought you were using the same cable. If you can peel the tape then it might come out easier but it IS a risk and I wouldn't like to just say 'tug it!' Sorry man :(

Those 8 Beeps will only happen if the problem seems to be internal, in your case (and addind the new photos you submitted) I strongly believe there is something wrong with the 1080 screen.
Right now the only thing I can think of would be testing that out with another screen.

    hi bump

anyone there that had this problem?
the screen works for hourss playing games or searching the net
but right after i close the screen, put it into sleep or restarting, it may work normally or it may start with the problem, my problem is ramdonly
    is the display defective?
my point is, if it is defective, why it works sometimes for hours?! it stop working just after i restart the pc or put it into sleep, or do anything that will turn the display off

edit: some1 told me to reemplace the inverter board or tcon board? .. may it work?
btw where is the tcon board?
