I recently got an m17x and I was planning on upgrading my 720qm to a 920 later on. Is the 240 watt power adapter sufficient for the cf 5870 and a 920?

Yes. The 240 watt power supply is the largest power supply currently available for the M17X-R2. The other one is only a 150 watt power supply.

Alienware only makes 2 power adapters for the M17x. The 150 watt and the 240 watt. The 240 watt is for the dual gpus and/or the extreme edition proc. Yes the 240 will work.
