I downloaded the new driver (10.8) from the ATI site and installed it. When I restarted my laptop it was like it never happened. The screen resolution won't change I can't get into the control center. Also device manager says I just have standard VGA and not my 5870's. I am running the stock Dell drivers without this problem.

Is there a fix for this?

    Thanks.

If you don't use the workaround to install official drivers, you won't install anything at all.

Go to to the installation directory where you extracted your files and then into the subdirectory called "Config." Here you find the file "InstallManager.cfg." Open this file with a suitable text editor, such as Notepad. This is what the file contains:

    change it to this:

save the file and try installing Catalyst Software via Setup.exe again. (I want to repeat myself again mentioned already in other threads, that this option is also enabled in the DELL stock drivers and seems to be essential to install any drivers along our video cards.)

So I run the ati driver and let it extract the files then go into where it extracted and change what you mentioned. I did that.

But when I exit the rest of the installation and restart it, it still shows as false.

Try exiting the installation then changing it. Save and then try running the setup from within the extracted files place.

Also if it still fails Dell has released its own 10.8 drivers on the support drivers website. Cheers.

I let it extract then once it extracts the files the installer starts and wants me to install the driver. So I exited the installer changed the file and clicked the driver again. So it extracts the files again (overwriting the file I changed) and launches the installer.

Is there a way to not get it to extract the files each time?

Ohs I see. Yeh once you have extracted it don't run it from the same installer. You will have to run the installer from the folder where you changed and extracted the files to, otherwise it will just keep extracting the files over and over again. So yeh go into the folder where the files were extracted and then change the workaround to true in the cfg file, save and then run the gpu graphics driver installer from there. There should be a setup file where you extracted the files to and try running the graphics driver installer from there. Give that a go and see how you go chiefs. Cheers.

Yeah exctract once, and as soon the installer starts, cancel it, do the workaround, use the Setup.exe in the extracted files, to restart the Installer without having to extract the files again, and the workaround install should apply. Good Luck.

I tried that and it still didn't work. Should I reinstall Windows or is there something simpler?

The simplest would be using the Dell Beta Drivers based aswell on 10.8, you should give them a try :D Almost the same drivers anyway. Hope this works.

If that still doesn't install, use DriverSweeper and clean your ATI drivers out.

I tried the Dell drivers but kept having sleep/low power problems so went back to the old dell driver.

The new ATI 10.8 drivers have the same problem. Only the new video BIOS (VBIOS) will cure those issues.

The choices are the moment are to (a) run the Dell A00 driver with the stock VBIOS, or (b) update the VBIOS and use either the Dell or ATI 10.8s.

Will the new VBIOS be available to download off the dell drivers site?

Yeh dell are currently trying to put together a package and it should be available to the public soon. Cheers.

However if you want to try it out now you can also. One of the dell representatives has been very helpful on these forums. They have offered to send it out to us if we PM them.

    However;
You can get the vbios over here on this thread. Have a good read through 1st and you can find the vbios download and installation instructions on page 33 of the thread.
