    we'll my r2 replacement 2 weeks ago, and had to reinstall things due to things not working right, dead pixels. So today i said its 2 weeks old (even tho i got a new r2 from my r1) that i wanted to get a new one ordered. In short they said they couldnt, i threatened legal action, thus giving me my £3800 back (which i haggled down to 3300 ;) ) once they have collected the machine on wednesday.

    so i phoned the guy who i ordered frm previously 1 year ago, sorted a deal when i get a refund to reorder from him, and i would get all the same stuff i had before, but from 4 gig to 8 gig ram for £3450 total (online price shows $4250- not bad)

    but ive got a dilhema should i wait till september for the 'm18x' or not? as i start uni then also and will need a computer!

    thanks=)

    after all the problems the r1 and r2 have had you want to buy *another* new platform? get the m17x... the m18x exists only in the minds of those that want it.

    I think many systems go through trial by fire (benching). These systems are than returned under warranty and are use for spare parts or replacements. If you can get your money back on the replacement you may be further ahead to reorder a "new" unit.

    Eurocom just came out with a CF 5870 this week so there is added pressure on price points and added pressure for Dell to trump them again. Not sure if 480M SLI are in the cards or not. Either way you have won with the upgrade.

    ye we'll slight upgrade just with the ram i guess;p

    yes, i assumed i got a refurbed r2, my fans just aint doing nething right up and down idle... everything was great in games tho, just decided to get a refund and order from fresh, that way its piece of mind for me that its defo fresh! already asked my sales guy if it would be ordered as new he said yes.

    although whats scary is when i got my 2nd card replaced last week, the tech guy said dell is pretty shadwy, alot of his repairs over christmas to new machines, had alot of refurbed parts in them apparently!

    not sure how that is shaddy, if it works it works. I'd rather have a used card that is known to work(since most refurbs are just working returns) than a brand new one. also, in your warranty contract it specifically states replacing components is at the descression of Dell and may include refurbished parts. you bought the computer (hopefully) knowing this.

    unless you purchased from a Dell used outlet or used computer department specfically, you recieved a new computer. just because it's new doesn't mean it works correctly out of the box. btw, for a company like Dell, selling used parts as new is totally illegal, so that pretty much discredits that theory.

    lol you fail to get the point... dell would rather give refurbed parts ( which dont work 100% M8.... my r1 had motherboard replaced once, and ive had 2 280 cards replaced....) dell would rather ship out a 1/2 working card with issues than raplace with a new one....

    no I get the point, I think you are confusing new as working 100% just because it's new, which is false.

    I really think Dell work like the problems go away, not create more and upset customers on top. If the machine is a used return It will have a sticker refurb on bottom. If if was ordered but not shipped it is new. As Lozz said then contract states they can use like new working refurb parts for any repair or replacement. :rolleyes:
