ok, I have an alienware m17x r2 and I was give the wrong charger, actually a bad charger and I would like to overclock my alienware, me personally if you have something that can be powerful why dont you unleash it ;) but before I overclock it I need to figure out this whole charger thing. I know I need to get a new one, since the only way to keep my computer on is to keep the charger connected, it feels like I still have a desktop and not a laptop :( so does anyone have any suggestions on a new charger that will defiantly help me in overclocking?

and also I went threw a lot of threads and im confused on how to overclock, im confused on a lot of it actually, so I was wondering is there a software that could help out on overclocking. I know there is one for the desktop (sorry forgot the name) but is there one that can change the voltage and speed of everything without destroying your computer or is this a trail and error type of thing, if it is could someone help me in the right direction to figure everything out. Thank you

What type/brand of charger do you have ?

you can overclock from the bios (for a start) but you do it on your own risk ;)

You can only OC from the BIOS with an extreme CPU.

Firstly what are ur system specs?? and i dont quite understand the charger issue... if u were given wrong/bad charger why dont you call up dell and get a new one??...You can use setfsb to overclock your processor and use amd gpu clock tool for gpu... and yes your max stable clock speeds will be different from others hence its a trial and error thing...

You can overclock the snot out of a Core i7-920XM or 940XM Extreme CPU using ThrottleStop. If you don't use ThrottleStop, it's impossible to get maximum performance. You will run into the turbo TDP/TDC limits and your performance will be significantly limited when you are trying to run at full load.

Some other users are able to overclock using SetFSB. This works on the non-Extreme CPUs if your motherboard supports it.

Think you should have a Flextronics or delta 240 psu.....thats the brick I have with mine....if poss, go for Delta as I had to return TWO flextronics as i kept getting the "not charging" garbage listed in the above thread....Delta charger now and no probs with charging at all....call up Dell, give 'em your service tag and they should pull up a part number for you....
