I leave mine in fully charged most of the time when I am at home, the laptop stops drawing power from the battery when it is fully charged and plugged in.

Modern batteries don't need much extra care compared to older ones. The chips inside them tend to limit overcharging, so the only real issues for batteries anymore are overheating and age. It's not uncommon to have a battery lose 10-20% of overall capacity per year just due to the nature of lithium batteries. (no matter what you do to care for them, short of removing it and leaving it sit for a year- which still won't prevent wear entirely). Batteries aren't made to last forever- but they should last as long as most laptops are kept in active use regardless. You'll probably replace the laptop for a newer model before the battery.

I leave it in and use it as a glorified UPS. Occasionally I'll use the R3 as a laptop as well. RAID and write-back cache enabled, don't want to take any chances with power failure.

As the m17x is my desktop replacement i removed the battery from the computer at about 50% and put it someplace cool.
If you read about batteries you should know that a completly empty or completly full battery will loose capacity way faster so store it at half procentage. Also...keep in mind that hot temps are their worst enemies.

I'm able to get about 5 hours if needed, with my last computer with 6970m/2630qm I was able to squeeze about 5.5ish hours if needed.

That is pretty impressive. Id like to see switchable graphics implemented on all alienware systems. Its an incredible step forward when you consider the versatility that a machine like the R3 offers vs an R2 or M18x.
