im looking for a new way or product to clean my "black" m17x, i notice that i get smudges and marks on the front of the computer when its closed, i also notice that where my wrists lay its getting alittle dirty in the cracks and crevices.

my main question here is what can i use to clean the top metal part of my m17x, i use water and a rag and i have to scrub at it hard to get the smudges off sometimes, is there any product out there that cleans that metal surface good without leaving it greasy?

I use a microfiber cloth my dad gave me that he got when he bought his new glasses (they gave him a bunch). The same cloths they give you for glasses you can use on the screen and metal. Those are the best IMO.

I've been using Wal-Mart's vision center lens cleaner for some time, sprayed lightly on a clean micro fiber cloth. It's very mild solution and works great on any part of the notebook including the display. It's also non-alcohol.

Wet and Dry Toilet paper (Roll it up with each side being wet and dry)

Wet wipe it first then use the dry side with toilet paper,

Then when thats done go over it with microfiber, you can remove any bits of grain which may fall of the toilet paper and not get your microfiber greasy which helps alot.

Use a microfiber cloth to clean the keyboard/chassis and monitor. Toilet paper is too dusty to be used, i'd stick with a washed wet cloth to remove any smudge the microfiber cloth can't.

thats what i do but it ends up just ripping apart and little bits are everywhere, because i need to scrub really hard to get some smudges off, and then it sometimes still doesnt come off.

thanks guys i will try the microfiber. but whats a mild solution type liquid to help gets smudges off.

what do you use the lense cleaner for? the screen? what im mostly trying to clean is everything else but the screen. like the metal mostly and plastic

Dustoff to blow out dust and particulate matter. Endust electronic wipes to remove fingerprints and other stuff on the case, a lens wipe to clean the display.

For the screen and the lid I use a liquid called Memorex OptiClean Anti-Static together with a microfibre cloth. Works well and keeps the machine perfectly clean.

Hi! I would like to recomend what's seems to me on my own experience more appropiated for the external aluminium / magnesium and plastic parts (not for the screen and keyboard of course).
It's a paint shield that not just clean but really protect the paint, the metals and the external plastic parts. I would recommend this one: Colour Shield Car Paint Protection - Patented Paint Protection Systems
But I'm almost sure that they are others in the market.
For the screen I always use "Isopropyl alcohol" - "It is used to clean LCD and glass computer monitor screens..." You can find it at any pharmacy store... You can read something about at: Isopropyl alcohol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Then of course the microfiber is the best cloth. There si one very kind and soft brand named Lens Cleaning Cloth "Scotch Brite" (from 3M) that work perfect for the screen, mousepad and keyboard. It's specially designed for lens, cameras, etc.
    Hope this help.

You can buy those soft chamois cloths you would normally use to polish/wax your car with. They work pretty well.

Others well known brand for the external parts are @:
Turtle Wax - ICE Liquid Polish
    and/or
    and/or
3m Paint Protection | 3m Window Tint | Car Paint Protection | Car Bra
All will give very good results in the aluminium and magnesium parts (or in a cook-painted carbon fiber when all mighty Dell's Aliens decide to let it be and become available to all the aliens out here... :)
    g.
But as I say before, at any supermarket you will find in the car sector a lot of similar products. Just read carefully the application instructions. The blend of polymers, hydrocarbon polymers, urethane films, etc. give a good cleaning and a healthy protection to the external parts.

Another vote for a microfibre cloth from here. Just a few drops of water on the cloth and it wipes dust off, cleans smudges perfectly etc :)

I use microfiber cloth and I vacuum my keyboard. It's perfect, I do it on a weekly basis and I have no scratch after a year...

I use monster screen cleaner for the screen. Either a can of air from Best Buy or I hook up my air pump from my garage to get dust a debris out of the keyboard and under the system.
