    It does not tell what GPU the M15x is running. Without that, it is hard to tell..

    And in this case the M17x R2 is the better deal, hands down.

    the better deals seems to be m17x, The RGB LCD would be my deciding factor, you could some if not most of the components on it, seems like a good deal at $760 now.

    i7-920xm or i7-940xm same goes for the M15x.

    Well, i don't see any mention of a warranty so i'd say stop at ~1100$

    That's a pre Dell area-51 m17x-R1, people often confuse it with the M17x.
    I don't know if you want that model.

    what processor socket do i need to look for when getting a i7-920xm

    There's only one 920 xm (socket 989). The other 920 is a desktop CPU (LGA 1366).
