I just post a thread on M15X for system rating score, thought it would be fun if anyone post your M17X system rating here.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m15x/508971-what-your-m15x-system-rating.html

    check out the M11X
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/509079-what-your-m11x-system-rating.html

on M15X, none of the score max out the 7.9
wonder what would a M17X score looks like.

so here is my M15X score,
    processor----------------------6.7
    Core i5 430M
    Memory------------------------6.7
    6GB
    Graphic------------------------6.7
    ATI 5730
    gaming graphic-----------------6.7
    1920x1080
    hard disk-----------------------5.9
    250GB 7K2 RPM

plan on upgrade the HDD to a SSD now.

so a M17X will not achive any single score of 7.9 neither...
well i just realize that M17X use pretty much the same component as M15X on the high end part. that explains it then?...

I doubt there is any stock notebook out there that can hit 7.9 rating. Not that I know of anyway.
Maybe a higher end SSD or SSDs in RAID 0 configuration.

The RAM rating is a bit strange sometimes, I've noticed that mine used to always be 7.2 however only recently its bumped up to 7.3 now. For the R2 i believe they mostly range from 7.3 to 7.5 ram rating.

I think with the current "issue" regarding SSD's on the M17xR2 and 4K reads and writes being abysmally low, you'll not see a 7.9. I'm surprised "this guy" got a 7.8!

    I have 2 x 256GB Samsung/Dell SSD @ RAID 0 on mine, and only got a 7.1. :(

Do you have a reference to "this guy" and his 7.8 score?

Also, my single 5870 only got a 6.7 on the graphics (both Graphics/Gaming Graphics). Doesn't that seem too low? That's with the BETA 10.8 drivers. With the 10.6 I was only getting 6.0's on both!
My CCC info shows the correct driver versions for the BETA, but show the Catalyst version as 10.6. What's up with that?

im using the dell old drivers i think. I cannot get any new drivers installed following the m17x wiki and guides so its old dell for me

You'll need more ram. ie 8gbs.
The 256mb odd that the 9400m steals from you also affects your lower ram score.
