    Hi,

I'm new here and have just ordered my first alienware. It's supposed to be here by Monday, the 25th - so pumped!

    specs are 3610XM core i7
    8gb ram
500 gb HDD + 64 GB mSATA boot drive
    amd 7970M
    killer wireless card
    blu ray

I'm wondering what programs i should put on the mSATA drive (should i install itunes on the mSATA and all my music on the HDD - same thing with Steam, install on mSATA and games on HD?) and basically how that works. Do i need to set the bios so that it recognizes the mSATA as the boot drive, or will this be done directly by Alienware. Sorry for being such a noob, but this is my first mSATA drive. Any help would be great.

install windows and applications on ssd and keep user like data away from it.
but 64 gb isn't that much.
stock keeps 55/59 gb usable of 64gb where your pagefile standard bites away 8GB, hyberfill.sys eats 8GB and then basic windows 7. only that together is 32/36 GB used space. leaves what? 20GB for other apps.

so first after install disable hybernation and reduce pagefile to reclaim lost space on ssd.

hibernation can be disabled via elevated cmd running powercfg /h off.

if it's your'e boot drive dell probably installed os already on it.

so itunes application on ssd, library on hdd.
steam, depends on how much games you want installed at once.
if you only have one or 2 games you play much, put it on ssd, otherwise on hdd. you can only put the steam games folder on one location so choose wisely.

so i play a lot of games, but really the one i play the most is Starcraft 2 - would you recommend i install that on the boot drive along with itunes, frequently used programs etc and keep everything else on HDD?

like i said before, userdata like movies/mp3 ad so on on normal hdd.
all apps and programs on ssd for optimal speed.
if you only play starcraft and can do without the rest being installed then put in on ssd.
