M17X R2. Its not the fully upgraded CPU though, and I could get a few degrees lower by using a better thermal compound.

A fair amount hotter. The 840 is 45W while the XMs are 55W. With an overclock on top of that they will more than likely get considerably hotter. With a higher quality thermal compound and perhaps some other mods i'd expect it to stay in the mid 80s at most. If you are using Throttlestop though and pushing the poor thing as far as it will go, then i'd expect low 90s - which is still acceptable imo though not ideal. My old Dell XPS must have around 6,000 hours of 90-95 degree temps while running games for a few years (Civ V really used to push it), and the CPU is still perfectly functional.

i'm hitting low 90s with no over clocking. liq quid metal increased the time it take to get that hot WITH 10 cfm fan upgrade.
