I'm going to end up buying the m17x r3 this weekend. at the order screen it offers a upgrade from 1600x900 to 1920x1080. I'm not doing the 3d option. Whats the difference? I will mostly be playing WoW, sc2 and Battlefeild games. Will the be a big difference if I don't go with the 1080 res?

It depends on how far away you sit from the pc. If you sit 50-80cm away from the screen, you will see a difference.

If you sit as far away from the screen as I do which is 2-2,5 meters away (while gaming), you will not need the 1080p screen. I would recommend you to get the high ress screen though, as the screen is one of the most important parts of the pc.

You will get more FPS in games, if you go with the lower res screen.

But resale may be better with the 1080p screen. :)

It's a laptop, so unless it's going to be plugged into an external monitor all the time you should get the best screen you possibly can. There's not really any reason not to get the 1080p display on this IMO.

I just switched from a 900p screen to a 1080p. The difference is huge. I really like 1080p and I had no idea what I was missing. More detail is visible in games. You can see bad guys farther away, over all it is much nicer. I highly recommend 1080p.

    1200P FTW! :p

Resolution means how many pixels the screen contains. 1080 means each line of pixels, has 1080 pixels across. 900 means the width will be 900 pixels wide. Same goes with height. So basically, more pixels will give you more detail. But if your gaming, when the GPU has to push 1900x1080, it's working harder then it would to push 1600x900, therefore you will lose a few FPS in games, but it shouldn't be too bad. With 1080P, you can always turn the resolution down to 900P in games if thats needed to gain more FPS, but you can't turn a 900P screen up to 1080 ;)

Doesn't look the same though. If you are not running at the screens native res, then the game looks bad.

900p never looks good regardless. Much less detail.
