    when should the M17x R4 cpu fan kick in?

    post? above a certain a temp? is it normal for the fan to be off at any times? i did the m14x cpu fan mod and want to make sure the fan i bought isn't dead.

    It may be off at times. The curve is controlled by the BIOS unless you change it manually with a 3rd party software.

    You can use hwinfo to control the fan. This would also be a good way to test it.

    turns out the fan was dead, should spin up on power up.

    I have the original to test with i bought another m14x r2 cpu fan, shipping is very slow though.

    U.S., north west missouri area. Hopefully the first fan i bought was bad. supposedly, according to the mod thread it must be an R2 fan.

    EDIT: new old m14x r2 fan came in and it spins up, just need to install it.

    EDIT: installed and working! first one was a dud, should have tested it before cutting off the tabs so i could have returned it.
