where can i buy SSD for alienware M17x r2

hey guys i apreciate your help so where can i find ssd for alienware m17x r2 and what type of ssd is it samsung the best?

Ebay? any good offers place?

btw can i install ssd just for starting the computer? and HD for saving ?

 

Newegg.com. You can get a good 120GB SSD for under $200. You can then purchase the 12.5mm 1TB drive for storage. It's about $100. Put your OS, games, and apps on the SSD. Everything else can go on the storage drive.

For the 1Tb in the HDD1 slot solution you'll need to do a little mod (take off a tiny piece of the chassis) that may void your warrenty if you're talking about the m17x R2 in your other thread with the 2 year warrenty. If you're not comfortable with it and don't want to take the "risk" you can always go for a 750Gb one or put the 1Tb HDD in a USB/optical(to replace your optical drive) enclosure.

 

You can put that 640Gb one in the second HDD slot and keep the SSD for Windows/apps/games. It's up to you.

 

I was just pointing you in the right direction there. You never mentioned how much storage you wanted, or how much money you wanted to spend.

With respect to Katalin's post, Dell would never even notice the small 'modification' you must make to run a 12.5mm hard drive. But yes, a 750GB, 7,200RPM drive is still plenty of storage if you just want plug-and-play. Or just keep the 640GB.

katalin and turbodtalon i really appreciate ur help guys am browsing Newgg for SSD the link the tubodtalon gave me it just gave me intel SSD :S is this the one? i dont care about prices i need to feel the speed when starting my alienware 4sec lol to start windows

Any SSD is going to be far superior to the HDD you're currently booting from. I am no SSD expert. OK, money is no object, but how much storage do you want? That 120GB Intel X-25 is an absolute beast, but some people find that 120GB is not enough room.

 

Then go wild with a 240-256Gb SSD
Google some reviews and make your decision if money is not a problem.

120Gb SSD is enough space for me,never went above 60% usage.

Edit: Intel and Samsung are quality built and performance but not the fastest on the market. Crucial, OCZ, Patriot, and G.skill all use Sandforce controllers which will be fastest on the market but not the most reliable. You can't have it all in the world you have to pick 2 out of 3...GOOD, FAST or CHEAP.

As Turbod said any SSD will be faster than the magnetic HDD the system currently holds.
Now faiz23 pointed out 3 choices of:
1. future laptop tech
2. speed
3. reliability

 

as faiz said, what i think you would be interested in the most is between an OCZ, or intel. the reason being, is that the OCZ are the fastest, and again and as faiz said, intel is most reliable, meaning in lamen terms "its durable, and will last you for a long time", OCZ has its own quirks and problems/bugs (whatever u want to call it), though i dont know for certain, since ive never owned one an OCZ.

personally, id go with an intel, since i prefer stability over a mild decrease in speed. but thats just me.

Hey guys I had the same question, just wanted to add Corsair SSD's to the mix... How do they stack up against the Intel SSD and OCZ SSD interms of speed/reliablility you guys were talking about earlier? I know abs nothing about SSD performance. Help would be appreciated.

If this is your first SSD, you will be blown away by the boot times, even from a cold reboot to your desktop. Everything is much 'snappier'. I'd say that if Newegg.com has overall positive reviews, then go for it. I wish I would have gone with something that was more $ per GB friendly, because I'm running out of space *again*.

 

Yeah, SSD boottimes are insain....

but after a while you get used to it ,but any time i use a machine with traditional HDD's i see the difference 8|

 

Ooops! Totally forgot about my 2 year left over warranty when I snapped in 1 TB hdd last night.
