This is bugging me, my computer crashed a while ago, so I reformatted it, updated the drivers, added a couple of my programs back on there, restarted it, shut it down, etc. and everything was fine, then kept it off for a couple of days started it back up, then it crashed again, so I reformatted it again, (every time I do this I delete the partions, so its a clean new install) install the drivers again, tried to increase the windows 7 stats, (the rating out of 7.9 thing) by updfate drivers that where needed, installed a windows office 2007 (legit) everything was fine (restarted, and shut down fine) then today crashed again, when it crashes it would start up normally, all the way to the welcome screen, the lil circle would spin for a while, stop, then crash, the computer would work in safe mode, just fine, but cant load up in regular windows, whats going on and how can I fix it?

Could be the HDD.

It might be, but I dont know, I dont want to go out and buy a new one if that aint the problem, I read before that alienware and windows 7 sometimes has a problem with compatiablity with each other and there was a patch I needed to download to make them work together properly, so they wouldnt mess up, I probably dont have that patch installed and thats the reason why it keeps crashing, but I dont know where the patch (if they do have one) is

Never heard that and I've never had an issue.

Do you get a bsod or an hard reset ?
-
could it be the 2. gen pci, problem?
try disabling pci gen 2 in bios under graphics settings -
The R2's weren't affected by the PCI-E Gen 2 bug.
Try running a full disk check for bad sectors and see if there are any problems with your HDD. -
What kind of HDD do you have? When I first installed my intel SSD I used their storage drivers and it caused major havoc which was not resolved after a clean install. My trouble shooting lead me to believe the OS had been corrupted due to conflicts and frequent BSOD but once I removed both the intel drivers I've had but one BSOD in months(stock RAM). Although I still crash when I try to update IE to internet explorer 9. Since I don't use IE it's not a big deal unless I forget and hit "update all"....

I would run a memory test on it. Go to this site and follow the directions:
Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic
A lot of the times lockups are either going to be caused by bad memory or heat issues. You could also prime95 it for a while and see if this causes your computer to lockup also.
GIMPS Home
Does it seem to lockup when you are doing something or is it random? As what was asked before. Is it a lockup, BSOD, or does your computer reset? -
It loads up pass the windows booting screen, then goes to starting windows screen, the little circle spins for a while. stops spinning, then about 10 seconds later the blue screen of death comes on
Or itll just come up with the blue screen of death at the starting windows screen, then itll restart itself (sometimes)
It also crashes at different times while its booting up, but its always crashes before the regular (where you can see all your icons at) screen comes on
I don’t know how to do a full disk check for bad sectors
And my hard drives are sata, that’s what they say in the bios
Sorry I don’t reply back as quickly as I want to, I usually work a lot of hours -
If not, or if it doesnt happen consistently enough to know for sure if its gone when in safe mode then I would...as mentioned...do a memory test and test the HDD. Something similiar happened to me when my HDD #1 went bad in my RAID0 setup.
Edit:
Also, when you get the BSOD...do you have time to see what the specific error is related to? There is a program out there that lets you view your old BSOD screens...cant remember what it is called, but its handy for those times when you dont have enough time to read the screen.
Once you know what the BSOD is complaining about you can google it. I usually do something like: "BSOD from atidiag.dll" or whatever it says the problem is. Remember, as many people as there are on the interwebs the chances of you having a truly unique problem are slim to none. Almost always somebody somewhere has had the same damm problem. Although, they dont always have a solution -
When I boot up in safe mode, I can do everything like there was nothing amader with it, so I tried to see if windows could fix the problem, I did a few things, I think what did I was called windows recovery (it’s the second options when you put your windows 7 disc it), but I don’t know, but the last thing I did was a window restore, right to the beginning of everything, I restarted it, and for some reason it didn’t crash, put the resource cd in, put my drivers back in and still didn’t crash when I restarted my computer, activated my windows and even put windows office back on and it still hasn’t crashed yet, I even shut my computer down and restarted it that way, just to make sure, the only thing different from right now and when it was crashing is, I haven’t yet updated windows yet, could there off been an update that made my windows crash? Thats the only thing I can think of

You can download whocrashed and view the logs.
