    Ok guys,

Wanting to install a copy of windows XP on a spare Hdd, and just still it in when doing certain stuff (not compatible with win 7). Or maybe even a dual boot but I have no idea how to do that.

Is it possible? and were will i find the drivers I would need to get it running?

    Thanks

    Sorry,

You wont be able able to install xp on to the r2. Being trying to do that for about a year. Somthing to do with the SATA drivers,ACPI settings on the r2 and your slot load drive.

I believe someone has done it but he had to strip the laptop down to disconnect the blueray/dvd drive. I cannot confirm this.

Jesus, what a pain in the butt!! ok in short heres what im trying to do, I have managed to install and get to play (thanks to another thread on here) age of empires 2 - the conqueors, great!!

So I installed it on my sons laptop (after much bragging about how great I was at the game) so I could play him at a LAN match, It would appear there is no way a LAN match is going to happen as Win 7 seems to not want to allow it, So my first option was going to be a win xp install (seperate HDD to swap out or a dual boot) - now scraped!

What about VMware or something like that with win xp on, or have I got the same problem as its installed on an win 7 machine.

I know its petty, But I big up my alienware all the time, and now it would appear it can't run a 10 year old game without issues.

how bout going to bios, enabling intel virtual accelerator (or something like that, forgot the name) and just installing Vbox software to EMULATE the actual copy of XP? no pain needed there.
