So this is a weird thing i just started to notice.

I have a M17 R4, on random boot ups it seems that my 680m is not detected. It freaked me out the first time i saw it, after a bit of Google i read restarting mostly solves the issue. So i did that and it worked. Some also said may be the card is not sitting right on the motherboard i looked it up and it did sit really firm.

But i notice this happen once in every couple of times i try booting up.

Just to be clear i have not been brave enough to upgrade to the 320 drivers, i have stuck to 314. Any pointers if this a bad sign ? i just don't want to mess this up ! any help comments will be appreciated.

    Thank you !

Edit : added screenshot while card was not detected and after a reboot.

Don't be a hero. If you done everything you can and still the problem persist, contact Alienware Support and get this resolved. I know dealing with support can be a pain from time to time, but they are the subject matter experts :) Sorry I could not have been of more help, but you've done everything I would have done in your situation.

Also, have you tried reapplying thermal compound to the card? Can you POST? If so, what were the results? UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS lol

I have no re-pasted the the 680M, it was pasted 45 days ago when i bought it. I would assume that is good enough ? correct me if i am wrong !

Turn off optimus and it will probably not do that. If the card is not active when a program starts it may not pick it up.

You should be able to run on discrete only by pressing FN+F7

Thank you guys for all your input. I have finally figured out what is happening ! Everytime i start my rig everything works fine, but then after sometime optimus kicks in i believe and puts the GPU to sleep. And for some reason nothing seems to wake it up !

I use HWINFO which has a option to wake up the GPU if its put to sleep by optimus, but it does'nt seem to do that. I am running 314.07 nvidia drivers.

exactly what is happening ! thank you !
