Hi everyone, so I originally posted a problem that I had with my Alienware 18 and connecting I-devices. It happened with both my iphone and ipad. (original post here http://forum.notebookreview.com/posts/10249891/save-inline)
Anyway what would happen was my iphone or ipad would constantly connect and reconnect and windows would make the new device detected sound over and over and over as it connected and disconnected. I spoke with microsoft (through email), Alienware (had them remote connect to my laptop) and had Apple (connected remotely ). Needless to say nobody was able to find out what the problem was. I tried everything from reinstalling drivers, different versions of windows, used several devices. Nothing worked. Most professionals (the tech support people) all basically stated that the problem had to be with the other device, apple said it was alienware, alienware said it was apple ect.
A search of youtube and this site let me know I was not alone with this problem. I figured it has to be something obviously with my laptop. The i-devices connect find to my desktop, and i have tried different versions of all the software involved. Now maybe someone here can explain to me why this worked.
Today I decided to take off the bottom cover and clean out any dust that might be in the fans. While I had the cover off, I decided to disconnect the battery and do a hard reset or whatever its called. (yes, I know that little about it and probably did it wrong). With the battery disconnected, I held the power button down for 30 seconds.
Put everything back together, and turned the laptop back on. Connected my iphone, and on the first shot its connected, itunes opened and its syncing!!!!. I texted someone I know that was having the same problem and it worked for him too, on the first shot!!.
Please share this with people who like me was ready to smash their phones against the wall. Does anyone know why this worked? I'm guessing it has something to do with the USB ports and something in the iphone? Because my other USB devices worked fine. Only i-devices had the issue. Hope that helps you if you were having the same problem.
(SOLVED) anyone who had problems with their USB devices connecting
