    Hi!

I have an Alienware M18x with the AMD Radeon HD 6970M CF GPUs installed. I want to put in a newer driver version, but for some reason, it's not working. Right now I have in the stock driver: 8.800.6.1000

I want to download the 11.7 or 11.8 to see how my system reacts.

I've done everything it seems to uninstall the driver, and to install a newer driver.

Even though the stock one is out of my system, and I try to load up a newer one, the stock driver makes it's way back in and there I am with what I don't want.

I must be doing something wrong. Can someone give me directions on how to uninstall this driver and to install a new one??

Let's pretend I am stupid, so please make your instructions idiot proof. :)

Besides the GPU as you already know of, I am set up with the i7-2720QM, 8Gb RAM @ 1,333, 320Gb & a 500Gb HD.....

    Thank you everyone in advance!

    Best,
    Mike

    =)

I've used homebuilts for the last 10+ years, always had Nvidia. I've used drive sweeper, removed the AMD/ATI drivers in safe mode, went to install the 11.7 from AMD's site for the 6970, and they won't install.

Not sure what i'm doing wrong? Is there a trick to getting the standard AMD drivers working on the Dell/Alienware systems?

    thanks

Yep, the same with me. I did the Drive Sweeper, and nothing at all. I never had this problem with my old M17x-R2.
