OK so, just for clarity I have extended my comparison. Please Keep in mind, the 6970m CF benches were done on considerably older systems/drivers. The source for the 580m SLI benches is NVIDIA, which means you need to decide if they are believable or overstated or what not, also clearly done on the newest drivers .... 2 Game comparisons included as well, but the only 2 I could find close to the same denominators for ... it would be great if some people could post FPS rates in Crysis 2 or Metro 2033 with dx11 and high settings, then I could add that ...

All benches 485 source: notebookcheck, 580 source: Nvidia. 6970CF Notebookcheck

Is there any early word about how much heat the 580m is producing?

Its supposed to be a lower heat unit ... thats all I really know.

Interesting no fanboys are here disputing these stats ... (I am not a fanboy of either system btw, if the 580 looked better or cost less i would have switched to it, I was the first person on this forum to get a quote on the 580m in fact...)

Anyway, apparently the 6990m drivers are up .... which means its coming. (credit to Aik for pointing it out)

That's interesting. If it's an overclocked 485m, and that had heat issues, shouldn't this one run even hotter? Did they make some physical changes to lower the heat output?

The 580m is based on the new gf architecture. It has better heat management for sure. It definitely wouldn't get worse temps than the 485m. The new architecture is why they have higher stock clocks than the 485m

We have enough threads on the 580. Choose one and post there. We have a benchmark thread as well - nobody has received a 580 18x config. Until they do....

    closed.

BTW, if you want to debate AMD vs NV, we have a dedicated graphics card section on NBR. For 18x specific performance, you'll just have to wait until someone posts their 580 results in the benchmark thread.
