Stack the 0.5mm pads.. You can always do that and it will save you some time...

LOL... Those were stock thermal pads on a brand new heat sink. It wasn't my "guide" just a photo of what you get from Dell when you buy a brand new GTX 680M heat sink for an M18xR2. But, you have 880M and you are using AMD 6990M heat sinks from an M18xR1. In that scenario one might expect something could be different and perhaps some minor adjustments would be necessary.

That won't do it. I won't have enough amount of pads to place them on both cards. Maybe 1mm will be delivered tomorrow, its 150km from here.
I didn't know that. I will do my own guide for using AMD heatsinks on m18xR1 when I'll install them. Nearly all thermal pads should be 1mm. It looks like that the elements on top edge are even better cooled than in M18xR2 heatsink because there you have to use 2mm pads, in m18xR1 they're also covered but need just 1mm. Elements on right edge are cooled by big copper radiator welded to the heatsink so it won't move on its own.Last edited: Feb 4, 2015 -

(Nvidia site says 954 + Boost http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-880m/specifications).

That's probably a mistake, mine was 954MHz but I've reduced it to 849 MHz to ensure that they will serve ma a loooong time. I'll list temperatures after some gaming, i have to work now

On 780M clocks with boost up to 850 on core after playing 30 minutes session in AC Unity maxed GPU temperaturę max was 76C, average was 72. Laptop is on the cooling pad but it's turned off. It's just to help laptop get more air. Room temperaturę was 19C. I don't use Fahreneit so you have to calculate it if You want.

Msi afterburner is the best solution if you are looking to save a buck. Performance will probably drop just a few frames but not by much. I have run many tests on it. I have actually set it to where my graphics cards didn't go over 50C but it feels like I'm playing on intel hd 5000 when I do. It goes up above the limit by 1C sometimes but never does it go over much of the limit you set on it though. I recommend you try that first

@Up sorry but I don't understand what are you talking about. I was using MSI Afterburner from first time I've booted laptop with NV cards.
After 90 minutes play in maxed AC Unity (no vsync, ULTRA settings, FXAA, patch 1.4) maximum temperature was 77C with both gpus at nearly 100% usage.Cards are set to 780M clocks with boost up to 850 MHz. Room temperaturę was 22C. Thermal pads are Phobya XT 7W 1mm and paste is Zalman-STG2. Don't know how it looks compared to other results but im satisfied with this temperaturę.
