So Ive had a go at overclocking the 880m, only managed + 50 on core and + 10 on memory clocks before it would crash the heaven benchmark.
I'm new at this and not sure how to get the overclock to stick, it I restart my p.c the settings are lost in Nvidia inspector.
is this going to translate to any benefits while gaming or would it be safer to run at stock levels and have more stability? I'm worried it is going to throttle even more than usual.
I guess repasting the gpu's would help to push it further? I'm hitting 80 + degrees on high load.
One GPU is always hotter as well for some reason.

If you can cool it it can be, but it runs pretty hot, and it sounds like your having trouble, so I wouldn't expect much from it.

The performance difference that you can squeeze out of that would be about 10-15%. If you can get a good thermal paste and a cooling pad, then you're good to go. Otherwise, I would avoid it. GPU overclocking isn't officially supported by Alienware and may cause harm to the machine if it isn't properly applied and maintained. -
for stable overclocking on the 880M's i use +50 on core and +500 on memory and for running to hot just use the HWiNFO to control fans and your card wont even get to 80 degrees
+ im using svl7 and this is the best ive ever done to my rig ! 0 throttle even if its hot or overclocked and always running the last nvidia drivers no problem the down side you cant use the pc on battery
but you can always switch to intel graphics when you need to use the pc on battery
880m is it worth overclocking?
