At first I thought the config you posted was for 1.6k haha. So I checked AAFES immediately and realized what just happened.

 

Hmm... now to decide if to wait or buy now. Common sense says "Wait." since I don't need until August (deploying) but... I want it NOW!

Yea it's not there yet. Took about a week with the r3. Wireless HD option wasn't there the last time I checked either

 

There is a bug currently with the M18x and the customer nameplate. They'll be able to fix it after you order or save it to your cart. The ETA on the fix is sometime this week.

 

anyone know how to get any coupons above and beyond the aafes discount? also if you order it now can you get the wireless HD added on later?

 

Does anybody know if I can return m17x R3 and get m18x? or can I order another one? M17x R3 is on its way to my home right now.

I'm talking to a rep right now that's telling me i can get 12hours of battery life if i'm browsing the internet. i told him i didnt believe that, and he "assured" me that it would be close to 12hrs depending on my screen brightness lol.

Dual 460M = Single 6970m. Look at some benchmarks. Basically, you would be paying an extra $150 to deal with the headaches associated with dual GPUs.

 

Wow, when I priced out the OP system on the regular US Dell site, $3369 (vs 2690.42). Somehow, I cannot justify paying a $678.58 artificial markup.

Yes, as they said if you in their window, also it works better if the machine hasn't left production state because if they deliver the machine the only way to avoid the dreaded 15% re stocking fee is to place another order before returning.

That what I personally did, my m17x-R3 was due to leave the factory yesterday for delivery, but since I place the order same day it was done seamlessly and order was canceled.

 

I placed an order through AAFES yesterday but still no word from Alienware or Dell. Anyone know how long it takes for the order to get through to Dell?

 

might be a god idea to go ahead and call AAFES to confirm your order. can't hurt, and wont take too long

 

What time yesterday? My experience is that they only process dell orders around 8pm est each day. I ordered a round noon yesterday and had a dell order number by 9pm

I've looked at 460 sli vs 6970 desktop benchmarks and 460 sli beat 6970 easily. Cant find mobile benchmarks.
Damn I guess I have to keep m17x. Dont want to pay 15% restock fee.

The base system on the aafes site has the i7-2720

 

If you buy another Dell laptop right away (basically an exchange) you won't get charged the 15% fee from what I understand.

 

Desktop and mobile are VERY different cards

 

im about to seal the deal with my m18x. for some reason i totally feel like a kid again. hopefully ill be able to order through AAFES by the end of the day.

well, i uped my processor 2 the 2720QM, dual 6970's, wifi bundle, Blu ray, and up'ed sound card. everything else is the lowest.

And I would say the 6970 are more powerful then the 460s, and I have a huge preference for Nvidia cards but I would go for crossfire in the M18x over the SLi Bridge 460s. Now 485s are a completely different story, make sure you arent looking at 485s versus 6970s. There is a reason so many people are going for the AMD cards.

Isn't this just the M18x and not the M18x-R1? Doesn't the R stand for 'refresh' or imply it's another model?

 

yes, but there will probably newe(er) models in the future that will replace it. the m17x was just the same when it first came out. it was just the m17x, it only inheritied the "r1" after the R2 came out

 

That doesn't make any sense to me.

I could have sworn there were 4 different versions of the M17x, for example.

M17x-R2
M17x-R3

Refreshed a total of 3 times. Which would mean this isn't the M18x, the refreshed model will be. I reserve the right to completely wrong cuz I wasn't around an following AW before the M17x-R2 was released.

err, i do not think so, though im not 100% sure. i do remember Batboy saying somewhere that the m17x didnt become the r1 until the r2 came out... so thats why i think that.
