Jbrewton45, I was in the same situation. I decided on the m18x because I want future proofing. The aluminum case, dual 6970's and wirelessHD sold me, I also included the 3 year advanced just in case. When your spending multiple thousands of dollars...$300 is not that much to CYA. just my 2 cents.

If I was you I would get on the phone and talk to an Alienware Rep. My understanding is once you get laptop you have 21 days to return it, if you haggle correctly you will be able to return your order and get the m18x without paying the restocking fee.

Is not like you just want your money back and AW is loosing the sale, you placing a second order.

My rep doubt it that he would be able to cancel my order in time, but if that was the case I would still be able to re place order no restocking fee, just haggle.

Have them order then use your Dell card for the payment on the site. Problem solved if you trust your cousin with your card info. :D

i was just on the site yesterday and it was showing a 700 to 800 dollar discount. Logged in today and the base discount is $450. When you start building your custom system the discount starts decreasing down to like 200 somthing or 100 something dollars. How the hell do you get less of a discount when spending more money? Its a reverse discount lol...you start with 30% or whatever off...then the more you spend you get only 10%...shady. This is either a bug with the website not doing the proper math or were getting ripped off...should of bought it yesterday when the total discount was in the 700's of dollars.

My config went up $125 so I'm glad I ordered when I did. They lowered the dicount on everything and are charging more for the black M18x.

did some clicking around and it seems that the discounts work properly UNLESS you change the stock CPU. Think its a website bug. All the discounts add up like they should until you select a differant CPU...then it cuts your discount in half. I will be calling in my order to make sure i get the proper discount.

edit: hope this bug gets figured out soon so i can order. also, do dell gift cards work on this site?

does ordering a dell through aafes and having shipped overseas count as an export? When ordering through dell it asks weather or not this is an export order. Does it count as an export if im stationed overseas? Im buying it for personal use and not reselling overseas (obvisouly) so i dont think it counts as an "export". What do you guys think?

He should be able to get pretty much everything in your name. You're allowed to specify both shipping and billing addresses on the site separately so there shouldn't be much of a problem here.

As far as ordering with your Dell card, he can enter it into the site like any other credit credit card and pay that way.

Technically yes, but what I've done in the past is order through the CONUS store and ship it to someone first who then ships it to me overseas. Yes, it takes a little longer to get to you but I haven't had any problems. The last laptop I bought (Dell XPS m1210) I had it shipped to me in Saudi Arabia with no problems.

Sorry, I was talking about Dell gift cards. Right now they have it where if you buy a $300-500 gift card you get a $50 one free. I was hopin to make use of this ;)

I do not know if they work with AAFES. The way I read the terms and conditions, I think you may be limited to direct ordering with Dell (online or by phone).

I used the Dell eGift card promotion when I ordered my M18x yesterday. You cannot use the eGift card and the promotional free $50 card on the same purchase.

yeah, i was just going to get the gift card so i could get the free $50, then use that for a separate order for the Orion backpack. guess i wont be doing that then if i can't use the big gift card on aafes lol.

anyone check this site to see if the bugs are fixed or congfigs have changed? I dont have access lol, have to wait for my bro to get home to hook me up

It count as CONUS. I ordered M17X last month and got it 2 weeks ago.
But watch out for thiefs. Dell will send you in box with big "ALIENWARE" logo on the box.

I was beginning to think the same thing since I'm still waiting (ordered on the 5th).

I ran the M18X config again through AAFES earlier and the cost was about $600 more for the same build I made previously. Ouch.

    Ordered May 06 (early AM)

Original EDD was June 03, it was in processing until May 16 when the status changed to preparing to ship, status changed to INShipped on the 19th, I got notification that it shipped on the 20th, then my EDD changed to 5/24 - shipped with 3-5 day shipping via Fedex w/tracking number. It shipped from City of Industry which is right around the corner from me, then Delivered today via fedex (on a saturday!)

It's overpriced to begin with. Even with the past aafes discount, I feel the m18x was overpriced.

With the AAFES discount.. comparing it with the only other current laptop that is on the same level, the x7200 and building it comparably from xoticpc you are still getting a good few hundred dollar discount. If you ordered it the first week it was out and got the massive AAFES discount, like some of us did, you are saving at LEAST $600. I saved about $750 from a comparable x7200 build.

the config i was going to order is about $100 more. i decided due to the weight and size of the m18x i am better off building a $700 desktop that'll be faster than the m18x, and just have a tablet on the side for portability. :p . i saved 2 grand by going with that option. i was going to go with the 2920xm/6970m option for about 2700 at aaefes. Technology is so fast these days as well and I really want to wait to see if bulldozer will change anything.

I just checked the AAFES site and there is still a $300 discount ($1699.00 base price). It looks like the discount is ONLY for the black color. Nebula Red says +$300 next to it.

The difference in price for the config I put in: 2720, Ultimate, BR player, 3X3 MIMO, HD Transmitter, 6970m Cross Fire, 2 yr advanced was $465 for Black. $165 for Red. I assume that discount was larger at release?

DrVillain, I ordered the first week it was out. They give ~22% discount on new alienwares the first week then it goes down to the typical discount. It was the same for the m17x-r3 the first week it was out. Have to pull the trigger quick. ;)

Got it, guess I was way to slow.

Is anyone else having problems with the dell portion of the AAFES website?
