Hey axace, your running basically the same pc as I am. To start with, the 2nd GPU fan has always been a problem for the AW18 user. There was some sort of explaination for it, but it was long and it made my eyes roll back into my head. Now, if this were a couple of months ago I would've said go get Prema's v1 vbios found here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...re-18-970m-980m-sli-performance-vbios.783857/

The version 1 mod was specifically made for the AW18 user with the 970/980m. It comes with a nice little OC, and stops the throttling problem. However, when Nvidia went to the drivers 361 tree, those of us using Prema's v1 mod noticed we could not install the new Nvida drivers. So, Prema released v2. This new vbios also prevents the throttling problem from raising its ugly head. Version 2, allows Nvidia drivers 361 tree to install on the computers that were using Prema's v1 modd. You can find it in this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-or-no-gsync-fix-for-361-and-new-base.787553/

The version 2 modd is not made specifically for AW18, so I wanted the piece of mind that I didn't have to worry about the 2nd GPU fan. As I said up top, the 2nd GPU fan has been a problem ever since 980m was introduced to AW18. The solution to the 2nd GPU fan not working problem was hwinfo 64. This simple app allows the user to set the speed of all of the fans. I'm running hwinfo, along with Prema's v2 modd and everything is running well. Find hwinfo64 here:

Here, is a screen shot of its set up. I think this is from Mr. Fox:

    Good Luck

There has been fan issues even with the 780M's I got my AW18 with. Its the laptop, not the videocards, that's the issue.
There is another way around it. Connect the green I/O wire from both fans together, so that when one goes on, they BOTH go on. (if its the green wire, I forget.. its green when they have a sensor right?)

No the 18'' lineups always had this sort of fan issue, even with the default cards they would sell it with. I had one catch fire - right while I was on the phone with a DELL tech, telling him that fan didn't work, and he was logged into the laptop - I'm not even joking, this REALLY happened ! It caught fire - DURING the tech call.
