Hi all I have a ALIENWARE M18X R2
that has SLI GTX 970M
Today I change the CPU to an unlocked i7 after doing that I reset the BIOS and only get a black screen when PEG is selected
SG works but only one GPU installs
The bios is the unlocked A11
It was working fine before but I only get a black screen now in PEG mode using UEFI
Please help

Does it work fine if you put the old CPU back in?
If so, you may have a fault with the new CPU -
And I tried both GPU'S in the 1st mxm slot and they both work in SG mode
Must be some setting in the motherboard BIOS -
Maybe an issue with the SLI cable? Also possible failure of the slave GPU slot.
Have you tried doing the CMOS reset by jumping the CMOS connector pins on the motherboard (power disconnected). Resetting the BIOS should basically do the same thing but I'm out of ideas. -
My guess is that some setting in the BIOS got changed when you installed the new CPU. Installing a new part usually resets some settings to optimal defaults.

When you remove the CMOS battery cable you will see the two small pins in the connector on the board. Hold a screwdriver against both pins for about 10 seconds or so. Make sure that all the power is unplugged! Adapter and battery

Hi @Damin,
If you've already set it for pure UEFI (legacy rom disabled) then it should work, however it might be worth trying the unlocked bios which added legacy support for the Nvidia 900 series. If you use my release of the unlocked one you'll also get native support for the 970s, so no need to faff around getting the Nvidia drivers to work.

@javers thanks a million I will give it a try .
I have resorted to using a MSI GTX 980 the 160/170W one with a unlocked vbios now drawing 180W + not quite as good as a 1070 MSI but closer to the 2 x GTX 970M ( Stock settings )
The GTX 980 MSI worked perfectly in PEG UEFI ( I may make a thread about the upgrade/update )
