What do you guys think would end up being better, 780M SLI or 980M(SLI if possible)?
My current AW18 is 860M SLI and I've noticed that lately I haven't been able to play on ultra settings without some lag here and there, so I was pondering an upgrade in the future

    Single 980M.

    SLI is officially dead.

Why is SLI dead? My 860M's run okay, but I noticed I could get some 780M's for about $400-500 for a set

980m SLI. SLI may be close to dead for current and future releases but there are many games from the last few years that use and benefit greatly from SLI. So unless you are only going to play games that come out in 2017 or later, there is still a benefit to having a good SLI setup and obviously for the 18, 980m SLI is the best you can get.

Honestly 860M SLI is the only way I've been able to really play most new games, without SLI enabled I lag pretty badly, so SLI support in 2017 is suppose-to be even worse?

Outside of benchmarks, SLI/CF has been next to useless. Few games implement it, even fewer do it well.

Who needs SLI with 3x 980M SLI on one card for $700!

Sorry for showing off, couldn't help it, oh my god this card is so nice, I can finally run The Witcher 3 at native res in 3D Vision with 60 FPS everywhere, even in Novigrad with everything turned up to High or Max (sans Hairworks, Shadow Quality, and Foliage Distance).

I.E., I'm basically running The Witcher 3 at 2560x1440 at120 FPS (60 FPS 3D Vision) with the community fix and oh my god is it something to behold. All with load temps that don't exceed 70C at 75% fan speed with the core clock at 2.0GHz stead and memory at +500MHz.

This works out to over 50% improvement vs. overclocked 980 Ti:

But yeah, $500 for 980M, that's a tough value proposition. I did spend this much to get 680M SLI out of my system and I don't regret it and I do have my R2 to fall back on and 980M is totally adequate for 60 FPS 2D 1080p but yeah, just build a desktop unless you absolutely need the mobility. Mobile components are way to expensive.

Agreed. I will not be playing the high performance laptop game any more, 980M SLI is my final upgrade for high performance mobile computing. Desktop from here on out, the mobile game is unstandardized and a complete mess today.

Dude, if you don't have a monitor yet, YOU HAVE TO EXPERIENCE 3D VISION. I recommend picking up an Asus ROG Swift PG278Q, it's one of the last monitors that will do both G-Sync and 3D Vision, and it's 10 bit panel looks very very good in terms of color fidelity etc., coming from an Eizo Foris IPS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Right now I'm going through following games with absolutely flawless 3D Vision:

    The Witcher 3
    Rise of the Tomb Raider
    Mad Max
    Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain

    Revisiting:

    Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

I will take 60 FPS 3D Vision over 120 FPS 2D ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Mind blowingly good, you have to see it to believe it.

I won't be building a desktop for a long time, 980M is still plenty for me. I have a 24" Playstation monitor I use, has native 240Hz refresh rate and 3D, pretty nice panel.

Oh you can do 3D Vision?

I've updated my previous post with some games that I'm playing and love in 3D.
