Hello,
my AW18 is back from the repair shop ...
they replaced mtb , 1 video card and 1 cable .... really weird everthing was working before .... anyways..
Now my computer boot much faster and i have all the normal XTU option ... yay!
but the guy who puted back my video card did not put all the thermal pad back i am missing at least 2 thermal pad that goes on the big gray ceramic block " vrm coil " ?
do i need those to have thermal pads ? i think i do .... need to call dell ? or can i buy them ( don't want to send my laptop back!!)

Yes I would redo any that are missing or look damaged, the larger grey components are inductors.

you guys know where i can buy those thermal pad ? and the right tickness ?
thank you -
Ebay is best place to buy it from.. Get Phobya XT pads.. More then good enough.. You want to get 0.5mm pads and stack when needed...

I just got my AW 18 back from the Houston depo. They replaced the MB, I had broken a couple of the fastener/clamps. I checked everything and found no thermal grease on one card, and the SLI cable was not connected to another. But, overall it looks like they did a good job.

lol thats a horrible job.
I mean, no thermal grease means it will overheat
No SLI cable means you got to remove palmrest and everything.

I always try to check whenever I get things back from the shop. I knew what was busted and I checked to make sure they did the job. Besides I wanted to put back in my 980 cards, before I knew they where dead.reborn2003 likes this. -
Wow... That's just ridiculous. It's like forgetting to put oil in your car, lol. How and why are these people even hired?reborn2003 likes this.

Almost seems to be more the norm than the exception

I bet Dell wastes millions of dollars a year due to poor workmanship such as that. They really need to start making some changes.Mr. Fox likes this.

Well, this has gotten progressively worse over the last couple of years. I think I will be making my own changes instead of waiting for them to get their act together. So far, going private hasn't done anything good for consumers or any of the Dell employee that were let go. I think jumping off of the Dell/Alienware train while it is still moving slowly is the best escape route for us. Mark Obee (L_Porras' boss) and Cy Jervis (IdeaStorm) are gone. I wonder if Brother Porras was let go. Not sure if he doesn't show up here any more because of how caustic things have gotten as a result of their pathetic new products, or maybe he lost his job or was reassigned to something else because Alienware doesn't want the kind of engagement with enthusiasts that they used to be famous for.

Having the Alienware reps on NBR left me so impressed when I came onboard. I knew I was with a company that took pride in their products being the best. The reps would be having genuine conversations about upgrade paths, OCing, warranty issues, pushing the limits... and in that whole time, never put their marketing company man hat on.
Man, did I ever admire and respect the whole service/enthusiast thing Dell/AW had going on.reborn2003 likes this.
