Alienware 18 + GTX 1060 2021 problems

First off, thanks to @ColaMonster, @Raidriar, @woodzstack, @ssj92, and anyone else I'm unaware of who helped with this guide:

Anyway, I've been trying to use it and, given it's a few years old, I'm running into new problems.

So I've successfully flashed back to A12, unlocked it, opted into Switchable Graphics. Disassembled the laptop, installed the 1060, reassembled, safe mode, DDU everything nvidia, enabled nonsigned drivers... and that's as far as that guide takes me.

The drivers listed are out of date and not compatible with my windows (2004). Did not recognize hardware. Incompatible with my version of windows.

So I've gotten 419.35 (not 100% sure about that, but it seems to be the best game ready driver compatible with both 1060s and W10 2004).

I've edited .infs before, so I felt comfortable doing so. My hardware ID is 1C2005AB, so I added that on to [NVIDIA_Devices....] and [strings].

Driver recognized the OS and the hardware. Begins installation. (custom>clean) Fails. Not sure why.
Attempted to install from devices > update driver > manually select. Fails. Error "cannot find the file". Checked the error log at INF\setupapi.dev.log tells me it's missing nvppc, which makes sense (no USB C). I verify where it is pulling the request from (Section081, iirc) so I changed the section request on NVIDIA_Devices to pull from a different section that is still a 1060 6GB but one that makes no request for nvppc. Saved it, safe mode, ddu, unsigned, tried again. Failures again.

I've tried every variation of modifying and installing the driver file I can think of. DFU/unsigned every time, just in case.

In the guide linked above, it includes an edited setup.cfg file.
My #1 guess is that I need an edited setup.cfg file. I've tried using the one from the guide but it seems incompatible, as it brings me back to the windows and hardware incompatible errors. I've tried opening it, finding what was edited, and reediting that on the newer setup.cfg, but either I missed something or I don't know well enough what I'm doing, because that didn't help either.

So now I'm turning to more experty-experts than myself. I've discussed this with some other people and a few people have my exact issue and nobody seems to know the solution. You here on this forum seem to have had success in the past, so I'm asking for help. I'm happy to donate to the wallet of whosoever is able to get me from busted to beautiful.

EDIT: Typos and clarification.

 

First of all update windows 10 to the last version.

2: download 460.79 drivers.

3: try to install it but when it will says that are not compatible dont close the tab, go to c:\nvidia (the files that nvidia installer has extracted) and copy it in another directory.

4: Download this:

No go. It does recognize the gpu and the OS, but fails install from either installer or device manager.

EDIT:
Log says it fails after lack of nvdetx.dll.

 

Are you sure that you have disabled driver signature ? At least after that install starts, does appears “ install driver, yes - no”?
If so and doesn’t works maybe you have a fault gpu , which is it? Msi, dell?
You can try to change vbios also

 

UPDATE:
After checking logs to find a lack of nvdetx.dll, I downloaded it from elsewhere and put it in the matching file that the error log said it wanted to go. That got me to missing DisplayDriverRAS.dll, which I found elsewhere and put away. That got me all the way to NVContainerSetup.exe. Which led me to NVDispgenco64.dll to NvCplSetupInt.exe to nvdispco64.dll to nvdet.zip to nvoglshim32.dll to nvoglshim64.dll which FINALLY got me to a "windows cannot find a driver signature. Install anyway?" message.
(I attempted this same tactic earlier with the missing nvppc file, but it didn't work then.)

Took about 7 minutes after I approved it, and now I'm prompted for a restart.

Don't know why all those files were missing, but I'm going to restart now and test to see if it worked.

 

So after installing and resetting, it appears the GPU works... mostly. On benchmark, it works everywhere except it doesn't want to function during DirectX 12 testing. I've restarted the entire test as well as retesting the x12 multiple times.
Any advice on how this is happening or how to adjust for it?
