    hey nbr,

I have ordered a pair of 980m's from Woodzstack, so i have a few questions :

do i really have to MOD my heatsinks ?
If yes how deep and wide do i have to cut ?
can it be done with home tools, something you buy in the shop example a dremel ?

i really don't want to buy another pair of modded heatsinks, cause upgrading was already expensive enough.

    cheers

From the look of the image above, it looks like you have need to modify the heat sinks.

Or ask a member in here who has stock 980m GTX what part number are the heat sinks that came with them. That way you can look for the correct heat sinks.

I did mine with a large flat head screwdriver. It took time, but I did it. I took mine down halfway, don't breach the heat sink or you'll be buying another one. If you don't do the mod you could fry your very expensive cards

Yes you will need to grind down parts of your existing 100W heatsink to fit the 980M.

I used a dremel tool for the bulk of the work then went in with a flathead screwdriver to even it out.

For those that don't want to mod, buy the "official" 980M heat sinks from Dell Spare Parts (if they are available). This is posted in the Alienware 18 Owner's Lounge.
