Very good news. Sounds like they found out what was the issue with the bezel around the PLS display. Now they will fix those who have issues as well as future models will hopefully be without the light bleeding![]()

Awesome! I had not heard that they had sorted that problem. Great news.

I don't know yet. I'll have more info maybe next week. I presume the resolution is going be the same. Maybe better colors and I hope back-light bleeding is gone. Finger crossed

What advantage would a new screen that is IPS be? PLS is a variation on IPS only better
QHD would be nice as an option for us that don't use our Alienware 18 for gaming...
-
I didn`t say IPS would be better. I asked because I thought that Dell perhaps decided to ditch PLS and go back TN displays...
I would actually love a 3K/4K IPS display, like you find on the GT60. That would be nice and a perfect match for the Alienware 18.
Let us know when you know more liverpool2 -
Tomorrow my court case against Dell will start. Dell continue to say "It work as intended" when the screen is horrible.
Its sad that many incompetent people work at Dell because I like their product. Every single time I bought something from AW/Dell there have been an idiotic problem.
First laptop dual GTX8800. I got football sized burn marks on my lek. "It work as intended". First when the newspapers wrote about it Dell refunded the money. Since I live in a socialist country I only got 15 dollars from Dell as "compensation" for my burned legs"
Area51 stationary: The CPU throttled down to 1/5 of the speed. You/I know its because its too hot. Dell cant fix it. Get a replacement Aurora ALX system after almost a year.
Aurora ALX: One of the power cables for the graphic cards was delivered damaged. Could Dell fix it? A 50 cent cable? Nope. One year later I got a refund.
Maybe most PC users dont see the problems = Dell can get away with it.
Anyway: I am confident that I will win the trial and get a refund + 12 dollar compensation for my M18. I am planning to buy a M18-s. The sad thing for me is that the price is 400 dollar more expensive for the "same" hardware as my M18 have. Either way I will lose money on this. -
There're many socialist countries, may I know which country are you from? To get only 15 dollars compensation from football size burn marks is pretty measly compensation, by my account. -
I have same problem with shompa and Liverpool. Lower left corner is bring while lower right is a bit maroon color.
It's very easy to spot.
1. Turn up your brightness to the max
2. Open a black jpeg or go to screen saver and preview blank screensaver.
3.Let us know whether you have the same problem.

Did Dell change the display to a newer one?
-
Anyone else have a go on the testing?
-
That's what I've done
Brightness to max and I used Injured Pixels application
Problem is the same
I am still waiting for new LCD revision but it's not ready yet and Dell doesn't know when will be -
Is there any official complain board for dell on this matter? Anyone found? If not, I will just google...

If you haven't already done so, you might want to post something at the Dell Community Forum in the Alienware Club. That will be easily spotted by Dell since it's their own Community.

My court case against Dell: I won.
Dell Sweden said that the bad screens "worked as intended" and refused to repair it.
Anyone in Sweden with M18 screen problems: Just tell Dell to check the ruling from: ARN 2014-01138 PAA

Wonder if the new M18 have a better screen. The review on the front page say its good. But the last one did the same and every one have bad screens even if most simply accept/don't understand that a black image should be black not black with white spots. Most just don't care or have seen perfect screens. (If someone wonders why some computer manufacturers are more expensive than others: Many times is it because the higher priced ones use the first selection of stuff. For example when Sun was around their screens where the first selection = why they perfect but expensive. Cheaper screens like Dell allegedly use are second or third selection. I personally am prepared to pay 1000 dollars more for a good product. Alienware used to be that brand)Cloudfire, liverpool2 and lordzhon like this. -
Dell know that they have a production issue = why they did a midyear revision fixing the problem.
At the same time ask Dell why they have 4 USB 3 ports but only 3 that have USB3 power = 3 useless ports.
+ Why only have displayport 1.1 = no 4K with dual graphics. Dual graphics on 1080P is really meaningless since the screen is only 60Hz. "But... You get 64gig memory now and we have changed 880 to 980, It must be better" well. It works on most nerds.. Thats the problem. -

I'm having the same backlight problem everyone here are having plus in the exactly same spot, the left bottom corner. I still haven't claimed it with Dell though, I've heard and read so many threads of people sending their machines to Dell in order to resolve it,and receiving it back with nothing changed or having even more issues than before that I'm not sure anymore if it is worth "the risk".... sob

Backlight bleeding happens across all brands. Its all about what constitute a complaint. How much is acceptable? With pixels you usually get a certain amount dead pixel points before you can change the display with the warranty.
Im very curious what display the upcoming AW18 R2 will have. I`m all for IGZO panels or any higher res than 1080p. Preferable IPSreborn2003 likes this. -
Hope something we'll be able to put on our AW18 R1 too..huehuehue

I`m using my second Alienware 18 after I sold my first AW18.
Got zero backlight bleed on the new second unit as well
Maybe I`m insane lucky about my notebooks but I can`t identify myself with the critisism of the display in the Alienware 18reborn2003 and scracy like this. -
I wouldn't say the backlight bleed on my AW 18 is bad either but keep in mind that in my previous post I was comparing it to a $1700 Samsung PLS monitor and in terms of color reproduction the AW 18 compares very well
