Sounds like excellent advice to me, shuffles. I would definitely wait for the M18x. If the M18x is all that we expect it to be, it will be the first worthy successor to the R2. (The R3 wasn't.)

Even if it's a few weeks, it would be worth the wait.

    @Mr Fox:

I was thinking that myself. I'm gonna wait till the M18X is released and make my mind up then.

These were my concerns which I posted this in the M17X section:

I'm not a programmer or graphic designer or anything like that. I'm just someone who likes to play the latest games that will visually look the best. The reason I'm now torn between the M17X and the M18X is the possibility of the dual GPU option in the M18X.

I kind of think that someone like me ie just a gamer, may benefit more visually by having a 3D screen instead of dual GPU's? Does that make sense? Although, will there be a ridiculous performance boost given by the M18X over the M17X in terms of gaming? I know that benchmarks etc etc etc probably say the M18X is way better, but will I notice that (seeing as I'll only be playing games and not doing any other intense tasks) or (number aside) will the 3D screen M17X be better for me?

I looked at the R2 but although some may say the 3D option on the R3 is a bit gimmicky, to me it will prob improve the gaming experience loads. It might sound stupid but I kind of think an M18X may be wasted on me as I'll only be gaming, nothing else.

    That's where I'm at.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I don't know what I need the dual cards. I use my M17X as a media center that I can play games on (gaming on my HDTV ftw). I'm actually leaning towards the m18x more for the sturdier chassis then for the graphics performance. Well that and a guy at work is getting an R3 and I want to be able to say I have a better machine then him ;)

I just called Alienware to check out financing options for my upcoming 18x purchase and the guy pretty much said what you just did - it was supposed to launch with the 14x but they had some "technical difficulties" with the machines and they needed to fix them too. No ETA past "Within the next month but it could be very soon".

Here's hoping soon before I impulse buy something else and run out of money!

The technical difficulty was probably that 460M SLi bridge that hardware heaven ran across. If that's the case, they should have just launched the system with AMD cards only.

I'm definitely interested in the M18x (dreams of M-ALX II float through my head :) ), but as always my concern is real world OC potential of the 2920xm and panel quality of the M18x. As it stands now, my 940xm is holding it down across the board (and then some) compared to stock clocked SB quad cores and TS.

For me, a single 6970 or 485M + nice (80% or greater gamut) 18.4" and a 2920xm with real OC potential would be a viable reason to move on from the R2 I'm using currently.

Surprised you guys are being told a matter days from reps.

When I called in to say I wanted to change my order from an M17X to an M18X the rep wouldn't reveal anything or even say if it would launch in the 21 day period I have to return it after delivery.

Yes, rep, rude, who was trying to force me into a 15% fee.

Do keep in mind that you may "order" it but still not receive it for a month. We've all read those "I'm stilllll waiting for my machine" threads.

So for all the rushing to get your order in the door, these things may still not be in anyone's hands till June.

I hope it takes 2-3 weeks to get it, cause i don't want my M18X rushed at all. I can live on my Macbook Pro while I wait for the M18X, after I send in my R3.

Within reason I agree. Rushed machines often carry trouble for things not put together well. I prefer it was built well, checked well and passed all QA before it gets to me.

Exactly, completely agree with you 100% on this one. As of now, i'm hoping it comes out in 2 weeks (First week of May) and I hope it arrives towards the end of May or so. I can live with my Macbook Pro for a month, while I leave my R3 at my house instead of my apartment.

    Former Np7280-S1 owner here...
I'd never thought I would say this but I will be getting an Alienware. I was never a fan of the flashy lights and such but I can't ignore the battery life, and after purchase customer service. I love Sagers, they are the fastest period, but if you are not adept at fixing issues on your own, you can be SOL for weeks at a time. I can't have that.

I know it's exaggerated :p Honestly Clevo looks A LOT better than many laptops out there. And I do acknowledge that Alienware looks bad under some circumstances. I just wanted to show off my enthusiasm for Alienware ;)

Believe me, I gave a lot of compliments to X7200 before. Not on the look tho ;)

    And this is still true!

I keep seeing mention that the 500m series (580m) may be released soon; is there any solid information on this and what are the chances it may become an option in the m18x sooner rather than later?

It seems consensus that Dellienware is shying away from the 485 because of price, heat and power consumption; are the 500s any better? I recall hearing they'd be a leap above but I may be mistaken. If so, and the m18x ends up launching late may, does anyone think they'd be worth waiting for? Is there any expected time frame for them? Is anyone else besides me hoping the launch got pushed back so they could offer these cards in SLI? :D

The SLI bridge issue with the review unit may have something to do with it. Could also just be tweaking the system I guess.

Precision M6600 is due for release May 10th worldwide. This means we might see M18x on May 10th or 11th. Like I said before, a Dell employee told me either May 11th or 15th. So 2 weeks and hopefully we can start ordering.
