Alienware M18x Steam/Origin Friends Conglomerate

I find myself constantly trying to add M18x/M17x NBR members with simialr interests to my Steam/Origin Friends list. The people here are so cool. Wouldn't it be nice if we all had a easy-go-to place where everyone's Steam ID/Origin ID could be easily found and a friend request could be sent? We read and reply to each others posts, why not have the same people on our Friends list?

If there is a "Alienware M18x specific" thread already I have not found it, so it must not be easy to find or successful. I am not asking for passwords or anything of that nature. Just the means to have a more comprehensive Steam/Origin Friends list for multiplayer gaming. The Steam NBR thread is waaaaaaay to " in general" and defeats the purpose.

***Mods, Can you please leave this thread here? My intentions are to gather ID's from other primarily M18x/M17x owners with the purpose of multiplayer gaming outside of NBR from NBR(M18x Sub Forum).***

On a side note:
there is a free program called Steam Mover Steam Mover - traynier.com that will allow you to move most of your Steam games off of your C drive to free up some space. This program is so useful. Before this program I found myself always juggling game installs to save space on my SSD. Now most of my games are installed on my D drive making life a whole lot easier for dual layer(50GB) BD-Rom rippin and whatever else

Hey there, yup, i have been missing in action for a while, with working Christmas night and New Years Eve, some money problems and also with trying to deal with Dell Support.

The M18X is still having problems, ranging from the Aero bug, to graphic cards overheating for no aparent reason (don't have them overclocked or anything, they are Nvidia 460M's SLI) to a weird glitch with my keyboard lights (sometimes when i turn on the laptop, the WSAD quadrant does not turn on, got to do it manualy through Alienware Command Center).
Been calling Dell Support Center twice a week, trying to convince them to send a enginner over to check the laptop, and the answers they gave me range from "We don't have anyone to send" to "The laptop has no problems" to the usual "Stop lying" answers.
Just got fed up with all of this, so am running the laptop as it is.
If they ever launch a M18X R2, i might stay well away from it, had nothing but nightmares with Dell!

Awwwwww......man I can't believe you are still trying to get that issue fixed. It seems like forever. I heard UK has problems with tech support. Please try to shoot Bill Dell a PM. Maybe he can point your case in the wright direction. I'm soooo glad you hung on for this long.

My hat is off to you. I figured something was wrong because I never see you here in the threads anymore, but on Xbox live when you have a M18x.

Mkelliny aka LiqaMadiq/Hard2obtane is always up for some BF3/L4D2 and is a good all around player. Defenitely a good friend to add.

SMOKE_SKULL aka smokeskull has some serious skillz in Rage online. He has a very "tactical" playing style. He saved my rump so many times. Especially during that spike stage in Rage....lol. Thanks. Defenitely a good friend to add.

We got to play some NFS:HP sometime!!!! I'll buy the legit version of Dirt 3 soon so we can go at it soon!!

Dirt 3 i amazing. Especially with my G27! Hit me up on Steam. I don't ever leave Origin running cos it sucks.

 

lol....I don't leave anything running. Dirt 3 is sick. NFS:HP is hella fun online. I almost completed the whole game. I have the highest Wanted level achievable and all the cars. Playing online with friends is the only way to go. NFS:HP has tooo many cheaters using trainer cheats.

I had same issues with 560 I had new complete 580s kit sent out nbd and wwhat a nightmare,also new mobo keyboard heatsinks bezel sli cable lcd panel about 5k in parts!It wouldve been cheaper to send a new m18x which is what Im getting now.If dell keeps jerking you get on social media team I had every single part the next day from a single 560 to sli 580gtx,new ssd everything.Sky knows my ordeal stevie also.Now Im getting a new m18x sli 580gtx raid ssd wi-hd killer 1103 2860 soon to be 2960!Dont give up!

Right, a little development. Had a phone call today from Alienware tech support and they wanted to run even more tests....i mean, how many more tests can this laptop be put through until they realize that there is something wrong????
I mean, the areo bug comes and goes, the light on the keyboard comes and goes, even the overheating comes and goes, but they are still faults nonetheless!
I ran the tests that they wanted and sent the results back to Alienware, let's see what they say.
Oh, and the didn't say a word about the employees on the Tech Support calling me a liar...let's see if they can have a resolution with that issue as well.
Will keep you guys informed with what happens with this.

Wish I had an M18x so I could join in, however I am holding out for a possible R2.

 

That's probably not a bad idea this far into the R1's life, especially with Ivy Bridge probably already at Dell factories.

 

Well I should be getting my R1 any day now. My Steam is Alpha_Omega69 and my Origin is mobiousblack. I originally planned on holding out for an R2 but with the deals they recently had and knowing that all the bugs seemed to be ironed out, I just could not resist

 

Congrats on the R1. You are right, they almost have all the bugs ironed out. Your specs are still overkill for most games and handle BF3 with ease. Id like to know your thoughts on you're M18x after you've had some time with it...since you're coming from Malibal. Be sure to add the people in this thread. They really are first class.

I will just say this,Dell can be the worst or best experience you ever had. I am in a whole new league with the social media team,I have pretty much carte blanche,But it wasn't easy,after a ton of support issues and escallation experts were a joke,I found BillB@Dell on NBR,he hooked me up with a top level tech and an engineer and top level cs rep.I got a call from a boss over 70people on his team alone,and after that I call, and get basically whatever I want.And fast.I don"t want to sound like a jerk it's just the way it is,There are people waiting for depot repairs and techs,etc for months,I made 1 call and that night a loaded m18x is in production.I already helped out about 10 people get help.!st thing try @dellcares or facebook,I know for a fact those complaints get help faster.Good luck and try socialmedia trust me! Sorry off topic Sky,just trying to help a brother out.

 

No worries. I appreciate you helping him out. I am hoping this thread will be a balance between providing morale support, mild general support & Origin/Steam friend contacts accross M17x/M18x platforms.

The problem I face now is that I find that this threads title excludes other would join M11x+, M14x, M15x and legacy owners who would make a great addition to this thread/list.

 

That's true I still do 90% of my pc gaming between m17xr3 and m14x atm while waiting for the big brother.Great thread Skygunner,alot of guys post only issues and this is nice to find friends with our type sickness for tech and gaming.Plus rep as soon as I can hit ya again.Good Job.

 

Just a quick update. I sent the results of the tests and it seems that 75 degrees celsius under load for a 460M is fine....but in my laptop is not fine, he also said that he would like to log into my computer and run some tests, still waiting for an answer on that.
What really pisses me off is that there is no sign of an apology for them calling me a liar all those times that i tried calling them!
And now that the new X51 came out, i was thinking about buying it, but with this going on...forget about it
Oh well, this will teach me not to trust Dell ever again...

 

Don't worry about an apology. Just be complacent that they are trying and treat this as a fresh shot. You need to get a video of the problems you are having and put it on your desktop. So that the tech can see it through an AlienContact remote session. Proof is alwayson the burden of the end user.

The X51 is weak. It only has up to a single 555 GTX.

Yes 555 best gpu,and upgrading x51 will be as hard to find parts for or harder than m18x as the gpu is a small double deck special card to begin with.You are the man Skygunner,I like how your right there alway's to help out.Keep it up.Still trying to + rep ya.Soon.

And necro the gpu can handle 75 degrees in testing,that doesn't mean it should.The 460/560 are rated at 75 watts @ stock volt & clocks and 75c on them is ok on paper.I dont want to start any dell issue.It sounds like you got a bad mess of help from support.I put the info on who to reach on last post.I am proof that Dell can and will bend over backwards to help.So is Skygunner and alot of other's and we only want to help.GL.
