I'm looking for some advice,I got an m18x r2 for a good price and I ordered a gtx 980m to replace the 660m that came with it.
Now,do I need an unlocked bios or can I run a12 bios and a moded driver or will it work just with the rugler driver.
I'm running windows 10,any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Raidriar is who I would inquire to for details. That being said Im sure if you search a couple of pages of the m18x R2 forum you'll likely find some others who did similar upgrades

I recommend getting the A11 unlocked BIOS. You shouldn’t need to modify any drivers with M18xR2 + 980M I believe. nVidia weirdly enough added the device ID into their drivers awhile back.

It is likely you have a gsync version of the GPU. Those models will only work in single GPU setups. Remove the gpu, enter bios and set video to SG. Then install your 980m.

    Also drivers might need modding.

Ok I bought this 980m off ebay I got it to work with sv17 moded bios and I moded the vide driver, I set video to peg, i run a bench mark and it's working good.
If i shut down the pc and unplug from from the wall and turn on and run bech mark it will throttles down to 162 mhz with temps at 67c.
I have to go in to bios and set the video to igfx and restart then restart agin and set it to peg then log in it's back to normal,is there a way to fix this problem?

This is exactly why I didn't go 980M SLI.

@Raidriar might know about this issue.

Nobody has a fix for this, just do graphics switch and it works fine. My computer is stationary so i rarely ever have to do this

I never had any issues in my 980M SLI days. I bet you all these new bloated drivers that is messing up these cards.

I'm running 1 gtx 980m not 2, I have it set to peg.
but i noticed something, it runs at 162 mhz on a stress test on the battery, win plug it in it jumps up to 768 mhz but after I shut the pc off it stays at 162mhz evan plugged in then I have to go into bios and run igfx and restart, restart agin and set it to peg and it's back to normal.
so there must be something im missing,
after I shut it down and back on agin it seem like its switching to battery and hen to the power supply and spiks up and down from 768 mhz to 162 mhz

Just be aware, you are playing with a system that came out in 2012, upgrading to a video card that came out in very late 2014/early 2015, and it is now close to 2019. Time is running out for these machines, and they lose users more and more every day. Few people still use M18x R2 daily.
