Alienware m18x r2 warranty replacement

My cousin is going thru an issue with his alienware having multiple warranty request being issued on his system and dell is proposing a m17 replacement, this m18x had dual video cards and initially yesterday I just told him maybe ask for the alienware graphics amplifier to make it comparable to the old dual gpu system.

Today they said no to request, but the new m18 came out shouldn't dell actually replace it with a m18 system rather than a m17 system?

 

Tell your cousin to fight harder. Ask for a supervisor. You have to be aggressive to get what you want.

 

I would push for a new 18 instead of the 17, especially since they've brought back the 18. If he had the top of the line GPUs at the time he purchased (680M, 780M), then he should get the 980Ms.

Even if it is equal in terms of performance, his cousin payed for the top of the line GPUs at that time (780Ms). It's only fair to receive the top of the line as a replacement. Now if he's fine with the 970Ms, then take them. Me, I would push to get back equal "value" in what I payed.

 

Well, it's greater and value is irrelevant. There is a document for complete care that states equal or greater, but I can see Dell has already increased the price for their warranty. Dell would go out of business if everyone bled them dry asking for "top value".

 

It's what he paid for though. He paid top value when it first released, which I'm sure is close to the price of a new 18 with 980Ms. That's the terms of the warranty equal or greater, equal in value (as in the money he paid) not equal in performance.

Why would Dell be bled dry? Of the thousands that purchase their laptops, what percentage do you think actually have the need to get replacements? You do realize that we are probably less than 10% of the actual "Alienware community" that have purchased through Dell.

 

If I am not mistaken, the warranty calls for equal or better performance, not value. You're not insuring it for current best configuration option replacement cost by having a warranty... at least not how the contract is written. It would be easier to deal with if it were value because the monkeys that try to evaluate equal or better performance are often so far off the mark that it's not even funny. But, yeah... the value argument is futile. If you applied that fairly to both parties the customer would lose because the value of a used machine would get the AW18 replaced by a maxed out AW15 or something less, so the equal or better performance is the better approach in spite of the lack of technical skill that sometimes drives really horrible system exchange configuration offers. If you get something that performs better that is only because they kept their end of the bargain, but that has nothing to due with the build class or performance-to-price tier of the replacement machine. The former is required and while the latter strokes customer ego, it is not equitable as a business proposition.

Makes sense, but if I spent nearly $4k on a system (not sure what he spent, but I wouldn't config anything less than the top tier GPUs) and it's been nothing but issues for the one or two years I owned it, you bet your ass that I'm not accepting a configuration of a system that is is only $2500 (again, not sure what his config was, but this is the pricing of the base model with 970Ms). Even if it's of equal performance, I want to get what I spent. If they refuse, then I'd ask for my money back, send the POS system in and either configure a new model with my refund or build a Clevo (really wish they would work on their chassis design).

a 2760xm chip with a 7970m xfire config being replace with 4910qm with 970m sli chip. Not bad!

 

That's a pretty good upgrade. He should be very happy with the performance increase.
