I have the same issue, on my second screen and still the bleeding occurs on the black. Every time you move the lid a yellow color spreads across the screen. The engineer has ordered a new front panel to see if there is pressure that's causing it. It's been doing this from new back in November, as well as the graphics cards dying on me too. What's more annoying is this is actually a full on replacement for my old M18x R2 which failed 6 times on different components.

What the freaking hell?!
I just cleaned the bezel around the display and now I got light bleed on all four corners like ghecko show. Previously I had ZERO light bleed.
So there is something seriously wrong with the clamp force or something on the bezel around the display. I tried pressing the areas with light bleed (the bezel) in and the light bleed dissapeared for a brief moment.
-
Time to pop the bezel off and adjust the screws holding down the panel. If you'd like, you can even remove the two metal bars clamping down the display at both sides.

I got mine in the mail today, Screen had a couple of stuck pixels center bottom of the screen. Drove me nuts, but a simple press in the screen seemed to reset them and they are functioning properly. I don't notice any back light bleed or uneven lighting.. for now. the system has only been on for about an hour.

It have straigten itself out over night. I have itsy bitsy light bleed on the top right corner now but its almost non reckognizable. Maybe there was some tiny bit of water under the bezel that pushed it from the display.
Either way, I`m happy again!

When my screen is displaying Black, I see light coming from the corners, it worse on the bottom left and right than on the top, does this have to do with the keyboard lighting? I suppose I could hit the go dark button, anyone else notice?

Welcome to the world of IPS displays. That's what everyone wanted and well, now we have it, LOL.
As you can see, we already had big head start on this subject. I think it was on page 2 before I merged your new thread.
You will see what other have done to minimize or eliminate the backlight bleed issue. Have you noticed any display ghosting yet? That's also a known issue with IPS. -
Does this look familiar???
What do you think of this display and specifically the bottom left region of the screen.

I also have some bleed over on the bottom right hand corner only noticeable when there is a dark screen. all ready contacted Dell support waiting on a reply. I let them know a replacement machine is in order and some compensation for my troubles,
-
Replacement machine or screen? In my experience they will not replace due to this fact. It's really just an eye sore rather than something that is detrimental to the system as a whole. I've had this problem personally and they have done nothing nor did I expect them too. I was still able to do what I wanted to do. Although now that I've had actual hardware malfunction they have agreed to a replacement since everything in my system except my screen has been replaced.
First rule of thumb, don't demand anything, just take what comes to you. -
-
And yes, its not a defect rather a side effect of the technology, and virtually all ISP screens have it to some degree.
I've got a small amount in the lower right corner but only noticeable during boot and/or when the screen is completely black.Ammo7 likes this. -
I just got my brand new replacement and guess what, it's the same issue although not quite as bad so I think it's something we are all going to have to put up with. I have had 4 lcd panel replacements, 4 graphics cards, cables and a motherboard and now a completely new laptop and the issue is still there -pulling the laptop lid makes it show up more so it's definitely a pressure issue.

Can any of the AW employees on the forum clarify if there is some sort of threshold for what amount of light bleed is acceptable and what warrants replacement?

Hello i have the same problem with my screen backlit and same problem with replacement. My Aw is 3 months old and at the beggining i didn't see anything odd on the screen but yet when im playing a games or looking at photos, videos im seeing it clearly(example on screen shot). I have call Dell today and they say to send them a photo of my screen so i did it after 1 hr they call me back and say that this "malfunction" (that is what they say) is normal and they can't do anything. What to do now? What do you all thinks about it? Best Regard Daniel

Hi Daniel. Look through this thread (and possibly others) and you will see that this has been corrected by many 18 owners by removing the bezel and loosening things up. Apparently the display panel is in a bit of a bind around the edges and relieving the pressure minimizes or eliminates the bleed.
I am sorry they told you the problem is normal and there is nothing they can do about it. The people you communicated with apparently don't know what is causing it. It is typical (perhaps "normal" under the circumstances) for the 18 because of how it was assembled, but it is not a "normal" condition for all PLS, IPS or TN displays panels to have this problem.hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
^this. The AW 18's Bezel was incorrectly designed. I personally think that a repair like this is important for the proper safety of the screen. God Forbid if you were to accidentally ever apply pressure on the lid and then the screen has a much higher chance of shattering

I`m using my second Alienware 18 after I sold my first AW18.
Got zero backlight bleed on the new second unit as well
Maybe I`m insane lucky about my notebooks but I can`t identify myself with the critisism of Alienware 18 -
Greetings from 2015. My December 16, 2015 Alienware 18 that was shipped Brand New from Dell has bleeding problems all over the bezel area. Absolutely terrible build quality and QC.

i had the same problem had screen replaced for another problem and was the same or worse found i had to shave the bevel at the pressure points
that seemed to fix the problem
Anyone else got backlight light bleed?
