I've bought a single Gtx 980m to upgrade from my Gtx 765m sli cards.
Have the latest A15 bios from Dell. Uninstalled the previous driver, and when turned on the after installing the gpu, windows 10 loads normally, but when it tries to install new drivers for the 980m, it freezes.
Booted in safe mode and It works.
Any advice to solve this problem?
Do I need modified drivers for it?
Unlocked bios?
Thx in advance

Hey there...Merry Christmas Eve! I went to a single GTX 980M on my AW18 R3. What is the driver you installed? The one installed I have is their proprietary driver: 389.12. Maybe this will solve your issue? Also, when reinstalling or installing a gpu driver, it's a good idea to use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller program). I'll try and help you further if I can too.

Hi. Thanks for the help.
Where I can find that driver?
In Dell website the only driver they have is this one: 10.18.13.5354, A00
Can you send me he link to download that version of yours, if that is ok..
The one in Windows update freezes too.Last edited: Dec 24, 2020 -

Well, I tried just now for the past hour, searching for that driver; I can't find it. I really wish I could tell you accurately and exactly it loaded on the laptop; the current driver I had, whatever it was (I can't remember), a Windows 10 update messed up that driver. In frustration, I ran an update (I believe but am not sure through) through the Alienware Assist Update and poof, it updated with this 389.12 driver; I was nothing but short of amazed and in awe, even saying to myself: "How in the world did that happen!?" I even have the date when it happened burnt in my memory. Everything worked as before the stupid Windows Update. So taken back by however it did this, I then, made a couple back-ups of this driver. Btw, the date that this happened was Sept. 17th, 2019; the driver's date is March 7th, 2018. Maybe that info will help in the search; the info in the Driver Properties is this: Driver Version: 23.21.13.8912, Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher Also, just to give more info, I was having an issue with the older version of Shadowplay I use and thinking it was that I needed an updated driver, I ran the update through Windows 10 Update Driver. Well, it gave me the "This driver for this device is up to date." Sooo, maybe others can weigh in on this and in the meantime,I WILL try and find this driver for you on the web. What driver do you have installed for it now?

I've been trying the one from Dell, the newest from Nvidia for Gtx 980m, one from Eurocomm..
Before the upgrade, I've asked everywhere to know if my laptop could receive this gpu upgrade, even in Bios update since A12 says that it supports the Gtx 9xx.
I'm thinking that maybe I received a faulty gpu...
But it works in safe mode and in Bios.
I'll try again tomorrow..
Thanks for your help.
Merry Christmas -

Yeah, I suppose it could be that it's faulty; the AW18 does definitely support the 980M even as what this site has shown, up to the 1070. In Safe Mode, I'm sure the AW18's integrated GPU is being used. Here's a link that gives some understanding of the driver mine basically, installed and fixed itself (LOL): https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...ing-for-a-specific-driver-geforce-960m-38912/ and even another link that may give understanding: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/discover/276457/need-help-nvidia-geforce-389-12-397-93/
Also, I replied to another post that mentions the install of this driver; here is that link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/getting-no-boot-and-1-beep.833916/#post-11041672
And as I said, maybe others (and there are very many knowledgable Alienware 18 owners on this site) will weigh in and provide the Christmas present you want for your rig to work.Leomn likes this. -
Thx for the reply.
Another member in this forum replied to me and said that is problem with the memory..
He said that he fixed this issue by replacing the memory cans....
I think that is why in Gpuz, the Gtx 980m shows no memory... take a look..Attached Files:

Ohhh.....where it says Memory Size is 0? Where did the other member reply? It would be good and informative for other members of this info I think.
