How well will the dual 6970's perform @ Battlefield 3?
All game-play videos have all been using a i7-950 and a gtx 580 so how well would it play and could i run it max with all settings?
Also how does the m18x cope with metro 2033 maxed and gta iv maxed?
Let's use this thread for discussing Battlefield 3.

medium high probably
-
while gtx580 scores 6k in 3dmark 11 along with m18x 6970m CF scoring almost the same, you should be able to crank all the highest in game settings as soon as BF3 becomes available! With a slight OC of the GPU's even with 4xMSAA it'll ran just excellent. I don't think there is a game till next summer to get 6970CF on its knees)
-
WAY too early to tell. I noticed the demo DICE did at EA's E3 conference was running on an Alienware laptop(or that's what the laptop looked like when they cut to the guy playing). Of course, it could have been a canned (pre-recorded) demo, but it got my hopes up

GTX580s will run it perfectly. also DICE is developing it on PC. I have very high hopes that it will be very optimized.
-
-
I bet you will get around 40 to 50 fps all cranked on highest settings. I don't think you will see the silky smooth 60 fps we all shoot for but close.
I'm enjoying the hell out of the laptop though. All the new games coming out run like freaking butter! -
Also on an unrelated note how well does the m18x run gta iv?
-
try running tropico 3 max settings, zooming in and out becomes choppy.
-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033/metro2033benchmark.exe - this is what it looks like:
I noticed that with the vsync on and a slight overclock the two 6970 ensure a fairly smooth gaming experience with the following setting: 1920x1080, high details, dx11 and MSAA 4x - around 60fps with neither lags nor micro-stuttering.
Cheers.

I don't think m18x can run it on max, cause the gameplay demos which were running on a GTX580 were not running on max and secondly because of this -
Nathan Lawrence of Atomic PC Magazine talking with Patrick Bach executive producer of DICE.
So i think DICE just went Crysis on us. -
Probably all the effects that the frostbite 2 engine are capable of will require the next generation video cards to run silky smooth.
Perhaps a dual 680m (28nm, 100w, 4gb each gpu) will be able to run the frostbite engine to the max.
And since the engine can make use of more than 8 core, im guesing a 10 core cpu will also help.
So the only laptop on the horizon that can do it to the max may seem to be the x7200 succesor.
10 core xeon cpu on lga 2011(20 threads), 32gb ram quad chanell, and 680m sli. -
-
if no pc built today can max out BF3 then a sager x7200 successor wont either. unless by max out requires features of DX 11.1 or something, the newer notebooks wont be faster than desktop GTX 580 sli so it wont max it. just not possible. now thats according to that guys statement. he might be wrong or telling a half-truth.
imo gtx 580 sli should max the game just fine. if it cant then... damn. crysis all over again. -
That's a bit disappointing to hear, but at least it's utilizing the power of pc's instead of just being another damn console port. I hate how everything is turning mainstream nowadays.
-
I didn't want to make a new thread, but what do you guys think about Skyrim??
Do you think the m18x will be able to play that on high with dual 6970m? -
-
Also note that in the article the writer paraphrased the DICE guy(Exec producer Patrick Bach) and did not quote him, so he could have also been misunderstood, but i can confirm that the demo gameplays(on the GTX580) were not actually running on max
-
Battlefield should run like a charm. BFBC 2 ran very well on my newly deceased gtx 260M, so the 6970 Xf should nail it.
Metro is the most demanding title out there at present. I dont think its very well optimised but I hear the candy is good if you have the steel . -
You clearly have not seen the gameplay footage of Battlefield 3. it is nothing like the console port that was BC2, here is the trailer - YouTube - Battlefield 3 - Full Length "Fault Line" Gameplay Trailer‏
This thing is gonna kick Metros butt. -

Yes it was just a single card.

Can't wait for some BF3 love

Single 580GTX runs it in the demos so 6970M CFX will probably run it similarly well.
-
Single GTX580 was not running it on max , see my post on last page.

feels like the day i saw crysis trailer and screenshot for the 1st time. doubts everywhere.
-
My question is... why would they make a game that graphiically demanding? I know they are trying to be loyal to pc gamers and all, but if it is so demanding where 485m SLI and 6970CF can't run it at very high/max, what hope does that leave for the average gamer who runs a 5870m or 460m, or even a single 560m/6970m. Last gen cards might not even be able to run it at low... (260m in m15x, GT555 m14x [not last gen])

You got to remember that laptop gamers are a small niche.
Most serious gamers will use desktops. Unfortunately they wipe the floor with the cards that we have. The desktop replacements are catching up slightly but if you compare a gtx 580 or 590 it blows the CF out the water and then some.
Im faced with the choice of replacing my R1. TBH I love the laptops but I dont like the rate by which they become obsolete with no upgrade path. As a gamer I need to swap my hardware every year without spending silly money. I think I will keep my old R1 for work, DVD etc .. and build myself a killer desktop with a 590GTX. Skyrim and SWOR and Battlefield 3 need some firepower. -
^^ what he said, most PC gamers use desktops and laprop gamers are not wuite a big communty. And don not forget that Crysis was also a game that could not be maxxed out the hardware available yet it is one of the highest selling FPS on PC
-
I think the only safe bet... Is that we won't know until we have a playable demo.
Which will still probably be no indication of the full game's performance.
Crysis was the same, and in the end, I was able to play that flawlessly on my XPS M1730. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
There is the open beta if you have the MOH Limited edition. This should be starting soon maybe in september.

it looks soooooo good O_O -
High will obviously be doable, but not Ultra. Considering that it is also coming on cosoles all laptops with a semi decent GPU will be able to play it, but the question will we be able to play it on ultra at 1080p?? And the answer is most probably no. And as for the open beta, you don't need to have purchased a copy of MoH, it is open.

-
anyone know of any legit beta leaks out there?
-
that's the point...
IRRC none of the "true" BF games were able to run maxed out on the current hardware when they were release, but the would scale down so that joe-schmo could run it on his low end hardware.
BF2 is at least 5 years old, but it still looks good... IMO it looks better than BC2 does on low/med settings especially in DX9 mode. -

the graphics on the consoles will be a lot lower than they are on the PC, in addition to the 24vs64 muiltiplayer limit...
-
-
I don't like how Battlefield games play on consoles, it's too slow and choppy. The pc version will be awesome though.

PC footage - YouTube - Battlefield 3 - Full Length "Fault Line" Gameplay Trailer‏
Fast forward to 1:17 on the PS3 version and 2:55 on the PC version and the footage is the same and you will see the graphics difference. Ofcourse console boys were disappointed so this is what DICE said - -
dam the whole reason i got an m18x was so i can play this, ill be pissed if it doesnt work.(desktop is not an option, i need it to be portable, albeit minimally)
-
I think predictions here are too early to tell. The 6970 CF out performs the Desktop GTX 580 (single card) in some games, from what I understand they were playing it on a desktop 560 ??? if thats the case the 6970 might be able to crush this game ...
I think anyway. -
also there is the option of OCing the 6970s a bit ....
