Hello I ordered mx18 get it today happy like hell I opened it and after 5 min I saw small deep dent on my right side of case really disappointed .... but that's not all after that I just put dvd disc in to my dvd rom and its really work louder than my old hoover really after spending almoust 3k pounds I would expect that everything I got will be ok and check now I probably will spend couple day to explain customer service that I didn't order new one to got something like that and they probably send me technician to take apart my brand new laptop and change drive case.... Can I send it back and tell them I want another one? Because im really not happy from it right now.

    That's the pics of dent

If you get a nice rep. he will even let you use the current one until you get a replacement. Mostly they are very helpful...

I just received my m18x this past weekend too and already have a replacement on the way. There was a chip out of the glass in the screen. Tiny enough, but just big enough to be annoying. Does anyone know if they send you a "new" replacement? I ordered a new computer, so I'm assuming they won't send a refurbished one. Am I wrong?

They shouldn't but any unit should be checked to be in perfect condition.

The optical drive they use is crap (no offense), mine sounds like a hoover to, but who really uses DVDs anymore everything is digital download or bootable off a portable drive? ;)

I do agree with you on the fact that the DVD Drive has become a bit redundant. Still at this price I would expect a higher quality DVD drive.

Since as you rightly state I rarely/never use the drive so it is not as annoying as it would have been a couple of years ago.

Heh i spoke with dell reps today he told me that i got 2 choices 1 they will send technician to fix it ridiculous(because dent is on the case that he will need to take out everything...) and another is cancel order send it back they will refund ( but i used credit loan and it will take 2 weeks refund + about month reorder ) i ask rep about replace with another one he told me to w8 that he need to ask and after that told me that i only got this 2 options lol... Im really disappointed ( first thing i got pretty good deal on that system i dont know if i got it again another it probably take about more than month to get another one) in one world horrible....for that kind of money... and probably when they return money to creation they cancel my loan and i will probably will need to get another loan from them.. i just check website and if i reorder it it will coast me about 250 pounds more lol( withouth that extra 2 warranty and accidental damage i got with this one...)

I would return, they are actually much faster for refund than they say. Then you can rethink your purchasing options with your money in your wallet.

Yea but like i write before the same laptop cost now 250 pounds more and thats even without 2 extra years warranty + 2 years accidental i got for free... why they just can send another one exactly the same and take back that one... the simplest and best way to solve it for everyone :(

cause they just want your money. If you don't travel alot, I advice you to refund it and buy a monster desktop with Titan or 690 for less the price your going to pay for the m18x

you might consider keeping it if everything else is in perfect order. i saw the picture and i totally understand how it can annoy the heck out of you but once the excitement of ur new machine subsides, you might stop caring about that tiny imperfection, that is, as i said, if it does what it's supposed to do flawlessly, namely running the lastest games...

run some benchmark tests, burn-in tests and all the other things that u do on ur laptop, and it might grow on u :)

btw, mine sounds like a hoover vacuum too but since i hardly ever use the dvd drive, it's a non-issue for me

I can understand your frustration. But, if after running various checks and benchs the dent and the DVD hoovering are the only problems, and considering the great deal you've got, I'd say you keep it as it is. The dent is quite small, and even if we are all a bit OCD about our M18x remember that everything that gets used (or moved) a lot sooner or later will show signs of it, being careful or not. Second, the DVD also hoovers for many users, sign that it's a general trend due to the quality of the default reader installed in these machine. If the DVD is not defective and it's only noisy I wouldn't bother asking for a replacement, since you might get another one that's exactly the same (my first M18x had that same "issue" and it never really bothered me). Moreover, maybe in a near future you might find yourself getting rid of DVD and use that bay to add another hdisk, like many brothers have already done here (I'm seriously considering doing it myself as I'm in constant need of more space).

Honestly i would keep it... I have babied my machine since day 1 and i have about 2-3 small nicks like that at different places, its going to happen sooner or later. Up to you though.

If you where the owner of any company will you send a new PC just because the customer wants to, when you know that its just a dent damage that any technician or even you can repair? They don't want to because that sounds very suspicious. I know how you feel because you spent X amount of money, but because of that you should try to solve it with the warranty that you already have.

Those laptops are still build by humans they can get damaged when packing them or even at build. Look it like this: You bought a brand new car from a dealer, but that car didn't appear on the dealer. They have to move it from the factory to the dealer. While moving it in a truck a rock hit your car hood. They didn't see it because they have thousands of new cars and they are still humans so they just didn't see it. You contact them and they tell you: ok bring it here (they wont send you a technician) and we will change the hood, but you want a new car. Why? its the hood, and they are going to change it for free.

I'd only do that if it were an expensive car, like a Lamborghini. Otherwise I would have them paint the whole door (or whatever part was scratched).

On topic: I would keep the laptop as long as it functions properly. I'm sure a technician can come out and replace the chassis, and if they do a bad job, return it.

You have every right to refund it if your not happy. It's annoying they can't just replace it like they should. In any event, how can AW/Dell improve as a company if consumers always wear their quality control mistakes - I'd argue that this approach helps no one in the long run.
New means new, whether its a Ferrari or a Nissan is not the point. II can understand if it was a Dell outlet model, buts its not and it shouldn't have any defects.

    Just giving my two cents

    Two approaches
    1. You accept the nick and move on
    2. Get in touch with the dell corporate team (escalations) and make them understand that a refund is a escapist mechanism and all you need is a brand new system as you ordered .... trust me after a few conversations .... there is always someone who understands your point ... good luck

And I am speaking from past experience ..... you'll have to fight hard ....but in the end you can come out a winner .........dell is extremely supportive of its customers .. . you just have to reach the right person

This tends to be the most likely way to get an outcome, it's what I have seen give it the most on here.

True brother meaker .. you have to be extremely persistent .. but it does pay off ... so kudos to dell for always putting thing straight in the end .....as they say ... All is well ... that ends well .... hopefully OP can follow the same approach :)

As others have said you do have two options, in the end they are about the same. If you keep the current laptop and let DELL fix it, you still have a brand new laptop, with brand new parts. Even the replace case will be brand new when they put it on. This options leave you will little down time and the great deal (250 less) than current price for that spec. The second option is to fight for a full exchange. This option leaves you without a laptop and possibly having to go through the whole process over again and paying the current price for the same laptop, which is 250 more IRRC.

It's your choice, but DELL will make it right if you let them, and while it is a minor headache having to go through the process in the end I think it is less than having to go through the refund/re-buy process.

When I purchased my m14x r2 in July of 2012, it didn't come with the "protective covering" on the alien head logo. After watching tons of videos, I'm realizing mine was the only one like that. I'm beginning to thank I got a returned one and not brand new

I wouldn't burn any calories worrying about that. It is not an indication you received a used machine. They don't have any used machines to ship from the factory in China. It is probably just a simple case where a factory worker did not stick one on the alien head, or it maybe got knocked off in the assembly line somewhere along the way. In the grand scheme of things, it shouldn't really matter if you have that clear throw-away decal if there's nothing wrong with your machine. Second-hand machines from Dell Outlet go through a completely separate process and are not shipped through the same channels as new machines.
