Just ordered Liquid Ultra myself, I really hope it comes fast:

The Dell technician arrived to replace my SLID Bridge cable and I asked him nicely if he can do the CPU upgrade for me and he did! running @ 4GHz now on the 4940MX and awaiting my Liquid Ultra + GELID Extreme to come next week along with my Intel AC7260 WLAN card I ordered

with your new pride..
It is almost no hardware from Dell that is left in your AW18 .. Soon is only the shell remains of your Aw ..Last edited: Mar 12, 2015 -

That's the best kind of system
I'm just getting the hang of liquid ultra myself though I think my first tube was not quite mixed right.Mr. Fox and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Here's the nature of CLU -
Applies for heatsinks & Hotwell MQ/MX CPUs and Alienware branded GPUs (Clevo does insulate them) as they have capacitors beside the die -

There's no reason for anyone to be afraid of Liquid Ultra unless they are sloppy, cannot follow instructions and do things in a haphazard fashion. It needs to be applied in a very deliberate manner. If you want to be extra cautious, you can easily cut some strips of electrical tape to fit around the GPU die and that will work as well or better than the Clevo shroud. When applied correctly, on a machine with a well-engineered cooling system and heat sinks that make proper contact with the CPU and GPUs, there is no product anywhere (that I am aware of) which works as well as Liquid Ultra.
If you get it on stuff it is not supposed to come into contact with, that is a user problem, not a product problem. The video showing an aluminum heat sink eaten up and destroyed from using Liquid Ultra provides us with an excellent example of an ignorant user error rather than a bad product.

Here's a dob of CLU on a 780M GPU die (before brushing) and a homemade electrical tape shroud. After about 6 months I pulled the heat sinks for an unrelated experiment and the electric tape looked exactly the same as the day I applied it. There was no CLU anywhere except where I applied it. So, in reality the shroud wasn't really necessary even though it served a purpose for having peace of mind.

You can get these problems outside the copper if you apply far too much Liquid ultra. But everyone should know that you should never apply too much regular thermal grease anyway .. This will generally result in improper cooling and you get much mess.

My cards came with a protective layer anyway, but I left some paste around the edge and it's acting as an insulator

I want to upgrade my GPUs from 860m to 970m , but my CPU is 4710mq . Is this CPU will work properly with the 970m sli ?

Secondly, I don't advice you to upgrade to the 9 series if you have an older generation Alienware 18 as they simply don't work properly due to a lot of throttling issues.Papusan likes this. -
He probably meant if the cpu is going to bottleneck the cards. No it won't bottleneck it but you better upgrade to 780m/880m because 980m in older alienwares sucks as Matrix told you

but 970m is more efficient than 880m and also cheaper than 880m , what do you think ? And what do you mean by older alienwares ? -

Yes if the card works fully then it is better, however due to firmware issues it does not perform at full capacity.

It throttles down like crazy
