So yeah this was in my case and I have no idea what it was used for as it wasn't connected to anything. I tried google but google gave me nothing. Tech guys... what is this?

That looks like it might the transmitter for a SiBEAM wireless HD setup. This was loose inside of your chassis, or what? Under the palm rest?

I cannot read the labels. What are the part numbers on the white labels on the card and the cable?

Yeah. When the first tech guy came 2 weeks ago (long story short but my 7970m's crapped out) the tech was told to replace the screen. Standard list procedure which obviously wasn't the issue. Anyhow when the tech was taking apart everything this piece was inside my M18xR2 with the end taped off. He was like is that? I had no clue. Anyhow another tech is coming by tomorrow to replace my mother board and gpus with 680m's in sli so I figured I would ask what this piece is in case the next tech didn't know. My m18xR2 is a refurb btw.

I cannot read the labels. What are the part numbers on the white labels on the card and the cable?

You can Google search the part numbers and probably confirm what the parts are for.

Do you have a Wireless HD card in the DMC slot (right next to the WiFi card)?

The tag on the cable part:

    COAXIAL CABLE - 3
    P/N: 1422-0005000
    WANSHIH 12/06/25

    On the card part:

    CN-04VWVN
    -GASK2-31M
    001A-A00

    Yup, exactly what I thought...

    Dell Alienware M18x R2 Wireless Antenna Cable DP/N: 4VWVN 04VWVN

    Dell Alienware M18x 2R Antenna Board w Cable P N 4VWVN | eBay

That part is supposed to be installed inside of the display assembly if you have a SiBEAM wireless setup. The cable and card are typically sold together as an assembly. If you do not have a SiBEAM WiHD card then you have no use for this. It's really bizarre that that was loose inside of your chassis.

LOL. Wow! I would have NEVER figured out that was. So maybe someone ordered this M18xR2 beforehand with that setup and when it got returned (as it's a refurb although it's becoming newer and newer all the time) they just left it inside?

I would imagine they may not have known it was inside in the refurb process. They may not have needed to remove that specific part of the display assembly or it was just a depot error.

Either way, free stuff. Should you ever choose to get a card, exercise caution using that cable. May not be functioning!

My guess is dropped inside by a tech who never noticed it.

Nope, as far as I know it has never functioned correctly in the M18xR2. I don't think they have a fix for it. Must be something like an incompatibility with the HM77 chipset, but I don't know for sure why it does not work.
