    Hi there,

I have a question about vbios Flashes with the alienware 18.

    The Specs:

    I7 4800MQ

    Dual gtx 880m

    16GB Ram

    mSata with 500GB

    2Tb HDD

I have flashed the svl7 vBios to my dual 880m. First I flashed the secondary card, to verify, that the vbios works, an because that was the first time for me, to know accutlly how it works. Then I flashed the primary Card and all went well.

Because the cards went really hot in short time, I decided to undervolt them, so they went from 94°C to 85°C with -37,5mV less and a bit of underclocking from 993MHz to 954MHz. With that they run very smooth and I dont have Problems like freezing or artifacts etc. But now the maschine cant run with battery, because the drive kicks out every time the cards get load. And 2nd, I recognized if I Play something like Witcher 3 or Rise of the Tomb Rider, my battery dropped a bit like 30min of play it dropped 6-8%. Its like my ac adapter have not enough Power for that bad boys and the rest of the system.

So can I damage my Motherboard or my battery with that like the maschine takes to much power or stuff like that, or are the Graphics cards independent of that?

And sorry guys for my bad english :err:

vBios cant destroy a mobo itself as its the firmware on the cards but if your temps are that high that would be a concern. +80c is not good in general but if your hitting over 90c that sounds like your overdue for a GPU repaste anyways.IIRC arent the 880s not the best cards to be using anyways as they had issues?

I heard from a freind of mine that his alien fireed up by using the svl7 bios. He said, that smokes came out of the back left side and it was dead. He uses the vbios, but under battery the driver kicks of permanantly, so he only uses that on ac. He said that happened where his battery was empty and because of that the ac adapter had to work hard if he started a bench. Then a view minutes passed and where he shut down the maschine, it got on fire. He thought that could happend, because the Grapics Cards needed so much power.
He did exactly the same as I did, like undervolting and underclocking a bit.
Now I´m verry scarred if that could happen to mine as well.

With that temperature you will melt your cards and your motherboard.....definitely needs a repaste, underclock, and undervolt.

Max Temps are now 84°C On Primary and 83°C on secondary card, sometimes up to 87°C.
These are my temps, i asked my friend and he said that he has nearly the same temperatures.
I allready Repasted them with GC Extreme

Honestly would it not be better to chuck the 880's for a pair of 980s? In my own M18Xr2 under load and with a fresh pasting my 980m's GPU temperatures rarely exceed the mid 70's range and thats with prema's vbios too.

The 880's were always trouble as well werent they? Prone to overheating or running too hot?

The 980´s would be the best, but to exmpensive for me
I have to get the 880´s to work.
Are they really to hot? I saw pics were they went up to 93°C but mine are nearly 10°C lower :err:

    These Are my results
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/19425762? Stock vbios 80°C on primary 78°C on secondary all stock, throttling randomly
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/18707879? svl7 vbios 84°C on primary 82°C on secondary -37,5mV and 954Mhz, no throttling at all

But does anybody have the same issues with the battery going to get emty by using them and you couldn't use it under battery because driver kicks out every time.
