So, I have been reading some threads like:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...are-your-knowledge-and-opinions.726567/page-4

I was just curious if it is possible to do the same here.

For starters, I remembered Mr Fox saying that the M18X R2 CPU Fan, being able to fit into the 18, just only short cable, but I am tempted to buy.

Also, I have currently thinking of upgrading my GPU Fans as well.

Not sure if anyone here has any knowledge of whether the 11.4CFM M17X R4 fan fits into the 18's GPU Fan or any other way.

For now, my 18 is using probably a vBIOS A12 (UEFI), with Cooler Master Mastergel Maker Nano thermal compound (X Method). I have used CLU and it didn't make it a difference.

Dell also come over to swap all the heatsinks and fans. All my fans are 5.5CFM

While at full load it doesn't cause an issue if I set all my fans to maximum in HWINFO. But a necessity to play in an Air Con room of 25 C is needed.

All fans at full (No External Coolers)
    CPU: 85-90
    GPU1: 75
    GPU2: 73

    Ask @Mr. Fox

I've installed M18xR2 11 CFM fan into M18xR1 and it works but don't know about AW18

The wires are too short for the 18. You would have to cut and lengthen them. Since the EC control fans speeds and Alienware gimped the fans you already have (does not allow them to run at their maximum speed... ever) I don't know how much benefit that will provide. If the CFM is dependent on the fan reaching maximum RPM it may end up being a waste of time.

    What Mr. Fox said.

Get CLU, apply it, call it a day.

I did, twice and there doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference.

I guess because Dell has changed my Heatsink and fan to a better one (although the may not look like it is in the naked eye..)

So far there has been no thermal throttling.

Although I have called Dell and asked for a new fan and they are passing on to the team am for approval to lengthen the wires.

Because, if I am unhappy with the current fan tables, I use Hwinfo to blast them all.

I am not really a heavy Overclocker though (I don't overvolt), but managed to get my GPUs to run 90Mhz CC more and 500Mhz MC via MSI Afterburner and the GPUs still remain in the 73-75s

Although, gotta admit, I have recently repasted the chips with cooler master mastergel maker nano, this time manually spreading like they suggested and things got quite cool

I wouldn't push memory that high, it isn't a bottleneck in FullHD, better overclock core.

I added a set of RAM Heatsinks here (Best place to put without damaging any components), would try with the GPUs soon but I can't seem to fine a place to fit them.

So far, 2-4 Degrees drop With my room temperature being 27 Degrees C.

I remember years ago when I had an Asus laptop (aka sin incarnate) if I cut one of the wires it would force the fan to run at full speed. Would that work here with the ex crap? Just cut the forth wire. Put it on a small switch and it will run full blast. Turn switch on and get motherboard controlled fans?

Well I do not want my fans to run full force all the time.

That's why there is a small switch. So you can turn that on and off. And it bypasses the 3700rpm limit.

Well, I don't overclock my system (not counting going above the factory overclock).

So far, my thermal paste is able to keep with the latency delay of the fan tables and have not experienced thermal shut down so far ever since Dell came over to my place to replace all the heatsinks and allowed me to use my own thermal paste.

Have tested with Throttle Stop and Cinebench and the results are still stable. Although would hit around 90-92 and the CPU may throttle down to stock speed but not under.

Gaming wise, still ok, I even managed to throw another 110Mhz CC and 500Mhz MC per GPU for testing and it gave me another 8 FPS in Heaven Benchmark, with the temps still staying at 70s.

Of course, if I am unhappy with the current fan tables, I can just use Hwinfo to just blast em all to full (3.7, 3.5, 3.3), really helps, like MSI's dedicated Cooler Boost button on their new laptops which maxes all the fan speeds.

Last but not least, I wouldn't mind me system to be kinda quiet hahahaha. While at school, when my classmates plays games in class, all their fans are at full speed while playing not so demanding games like CS GO, TF2 and Overwatch. But for me, my laptop is quiet like a mouse. So, not easy for the teacher to know whether I am gaming (I AM A NAUGHTY BOY BOY!!)

A bump. To let u guys know I have ordered the M18X R2 CPU Fan and it is going to be installed in my 18 this week.

Would post back for the results.

Hi Guys, sorry for the re bump.

I managed to get my used M18X R2 CPU Fan today and tested it in my 18. And yes, the myth of the cable being too short is true. However, after plugging the fan in the motherboard's CPU Fan header, it works!

And in physical feeling, the M18X R2 CPU Fan pushes more air than my current 5.5CFM 18 fan. Even though, in physical appearance, they look the same.

This is also to let u guys know, I am working on a new cooling improvement project on my 18:

*9 Copper Heatsinks is the stock config and the triple fan! Oops!

I am definitely interested in seeing how this project of yours comes along. All the best.

If you get good grades and learning all of the right things for a successful future, might as well have some fun. It would only be naughty if you were wasting your teacher's time and setting yourself up for failure down the road by not learning and making bad grades. If your friends all have their fans maxed out and creating a distraction while other people are trying to learn and get something useful out of class, then those are the naughty boys.

I'm guessing the teacher must be deaf or just not very smart if they are not wondering what the ruckus is all about.
