I tried a slight overvolt from 1.05 to 1.075 but that did not help with the black screen.
I also tried having 2D and 3D clocks at 850/1200 and then using Afterburner to underclock to 750/1200 whenever playing Darksiders 2. However, in-game clocks are ALWAYS 850MHz so I guess the cards aren't THAT stupid![]()
My current working solution is a vBIOS with 2D clocks at 750/1200 (so Darksiders 2 wouldn't throttle down in the menus), 3D clocks at 850/1200 (so other games wouldn't be affected) and voltage at 1.075 (just to improve general overclocking stability without going too far). Afterburner is required for a core underclock although the mem clocks seem to be fine as they are (1200).
If you still want to try to get the game running, you could borrow this vBIOS attached and manually underclock whenever necessary.

Tried 12.8 CAP 2 game runs even worser now
black square artifacts from shadow and still black screening.
-
At some point though, maybe even you would resort to just lowering the clocks and rolling with it..
-
-
117 version, from what I recall, has 2D and 3D clocks at 850/1200 but 2D voltage is 1.05 while 3D voltage is 1.075. -
So you're playing this game? I have noticed when i just stay in game, tried to stay on the same place for 1 hour lol - black screen didn't happened. But when i started to move, right after 5 min's i got a black screen
ffs
-
Yeah I'm playing it. Good fun I have to say XD Trying not to finish it up too fast here
-
-
Nah I just flash my 2D clocks to 750/1200 then when playing Darksiders 2 I use Afterburner to underclock to 750/1200. This way I won't crash in-game from having 3D clocks too high and I won't get the other crash in the menus from having 2D clocks too low
Sneaky, I know

When i apply overclock/downclock in afterburn my screen starts to flicker (dell 8.973 drivers) do you experience the same?
PS so we got defective cards?what are you gonna with them?
-
It happens SOMETIMES which is quite irritating
Usually resolved after a restart (if I don't restart, there'll usually be a BSOD
). Been noticing this all this while so can't pinpoint any driver pattern.
I don't know if my cards are supposed to be defective but I'm quite happy with them especially after the recent second tryp) of re-paste and a moderate heat-sink mod (if I may be allowed to call it so). I'll probably just keep rocking with them
-
MSI afterburner works not so smooth, damn screen lines.. but i managed to underclock to 800/1200mhz and the game works smooth
But in game menu i am getting lines.
EDIT. When you change clocks in afterburner then immediately launch any 3d application then alt+f4 then there's no screen disruption at all. -
Good to hear you're getting some success! Nice tip there too
-
-
Yep. Other games have produced the same black screen crashes when overclocked but I don't normally overclock so things are quite alright at the moment. Will they get better with future driver releases? One can only hope..

Even though i got gtx280s to run in my area51 m17x the m9800 gt debacle left a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered the 7970s because i wanted to try ati. I hope i dont regret it. If i have the same issues ill just make AW replace them with 680s.
-
If it ever comes to that, best of luck negotiating a good deal with those 680s

Thanks bud. I live in the great USA and bought the good waranty, hopefully i wont need the good customer service that is over here .

I notice that the 12.8 CAP 2 causes more flickering in DS2... Anyone else experiencing this? I actually had to uninstall the CAP 2 for the game to even run correctly....
-
-
12.8 CAP 2 was the worst thing ever. it corrupted all of my games. so I had to remove it immediately

As soon as you launch game... the intro with the crackling sounds and THQ logo... screen is black and then main screen flickers like crazy. Artifact lines start to show up all over along with flickers...
What about you? What kind of problems are you getting?

I was going to say the same thing lol. Beat me to it.
But then I also tried to disable crossfire and notice I get better frames with single card... damn drivers....

You also downclocking your GPU?
-
Nope, no downclocking here.

What drivers you are using? Your gpu's on stock clocks?

And the winner is.. deuce-duziiiiiiit for the prize of a pair of flawless 7970m's

Lol I actually just got these replacements last week

Just undervolting both cards to 0.975v fixed black screens also. No need to underclock core clock, just voltage rofl

sweeet, I'm glad you finally found a solution for yourself. Can you run DS2 now without any problems?
-
-
Yea. Other than the 40-50% load on cfx.... Darksiders 2 seem to run fine. Some microstutters sometimes.

afterburner dose not let me do it -
Latest 12.8 w/ cap3...
Does the game run OK with stock cap 3? (Without the 1v1 setting?)

Been away for a few days and am pleasantly surprised by Heihachi88's discovery. Flashed to 1.00v and now no crashes in Darksiders 2 and temps seem to have benefited by 1 degree in card 0, 3 degrees in card 2 (3dmv). Great work!

Guess I didn't reach the 3-hr mark while testing
Will do 1.025 then. Thanks for sharing! Rep button is not working GRRRR -
1.025 giving a black screen like with 1.05v so only working method is downclocking core i think... Have you figured out something with that game?
-
I'm just doing 1.025V with 850/1200 2D and 3D, crossfire disabled. No black screen so far, touch wood, and performance is decent.
Overclocking potential is certainly hampered as I can't seem to get any higher than 950/1500 on 1.025V but for now stock clocks are serving me just fine with DS2 and Borderlands 2
