    Jlyons,

Let me clarify. The point was, the cards have not been validated. The functionality of drivers is the question. You do not have to purchase a new machine in order to have new video cards. To clarify, the cards would need to be validated in the system in order to ensure they will function. So far, we are seeing issues with installing drivers. Not sure if they need to be modded in order to do so. I updated my original post to clarify the point. It did come off a bit vague as to what I was referring to. It is not an overall discussion on upgrades, rather specific to validation on this particular video card.

and yet dell sold them to people... I understand that amd released a video card without decent drivers and threw it on yalls lap... I understand that for the most part yall probly don't have a department to make the drivers needed... but why did dell sell the parts to people if it wasn't supported yet? Did dell not get engineering parts from amd? I don't know I would think that they didn't just release them without give some to dell to test in the new laptops. If they did then my eyes are opened and I will rethink buying anything from dell...

I could put up with crappy support... done that all my life from the enterprise side when I/my company paid a large amount of money to dell for 24/7/365 support to get maybe 8/5/260 support.

The cards have been out for over 2 months... Are you saying in 2 months there has not been testing on the r1 for these cards? Am I going to have the same issue if I want to get 680's in a couple months once the supply chain has relaxed?

Thank you for the feedback you have provided on the new driver release. I understand that there are many users having issues with the driver and we are tracking that.

Here are the main points so far:
    M18xR1- Not loading the driver
    M18xR2- Degraded performance.

Some of you have provided feedback on the driver so far, but we are looking for more. Can you please post exactly what errors (BSOD’s) and downgraded performance that you are experiencing and what you are doing when it happens. Be sure to include your model revision when posting.

For now, my advice is to run the 12.7 beta driver while we sort out the issues with AMD. If you running the new driver without any issues, please provide any feedback you can as well including benchmarks.

I thank you for your patience and will continue to have our guys in here answering questions and gathering feedback.

I am going to have the thread closed and consolidate all the feedback to one location as we want to track more efficiently. Please post there only as we will be camping out there gathering the feedback.

First of all, I do not want anybody to think I take sides...

Something tells me that nobody from Dell (including sales reps.) told anybody when they bought their machine that they can upgrade their parts in the future.

Secondly, I haven't seen anywhere written that those cards are supported by dell in the R1 systems.

And yes, Dell does support protection / warranty for the cards, as long as you have a problem with them (hardware), but everyone knows even in the past that the upgrades for old systems are not guaranteed to work 100%.

And I think Dell is doing pretty nice taking care of hardware failure, knowing that no other company offers warranty for parts used in the systems other than then one are made to be used with... This is my opinion only, please accept my apology if I offended anybody.
