Need help with M18x 3.0 USB driver
My 3.0 USB ports were working erratically with a new CF card reader. I uninstalled the Renesas Electronics 3.0 USB Host Controller driver and tried to reinstall it. Now the 3.0 USB ports don’t work at all and I keep getting error messages.
    One error message says :
“Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)”
An error message I get when I reboot says:
    rusb3mon.EXE –SYSTEM ERROR
The program can’t start because rusb3mon.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
    A driver resides here:
    C: Program Files(86)\ Renesas Electronics\USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver\
And another drive is here with lots of other drivers. I suspect this is the warehouse of drivers, not where the working drivers actually reside but I could be wrong about that.
    C: Dell\ drivers\Y34V9\
Here is there is a folder called Files and there are several entries inside Files and also below files. Many of the entries look the same. I think R298416 got installed into this section twice.
There are two sources of drivers for the 3.0 USB hardware. My Hive recommends R298416
Another Alienware website discusses the erratic USB 3.0 problem and it recommends this driver: RENESAS USB3 Host Driver 30230 setup.exe
    I’m left with these questions:
    1. Is the driver 30230 best or is R298416 better
    2. How do I solve the signature problem
    3. Where can I get the missing rusb3nib.dll
    4. Could I have fried my 3.0 USB ports?
    5. Do the 3.0 USB ports on the m18x suck and I should give up now? I want them to work so I can download photos faster. Also, the would be handy as 2.0 ports.

    1. Thanks for any help!

Did you try a system restore to fix the issue?

Thanks for the good idea to restore.
I did try system restore soon after the problem two days ago. Either it didn't restore or it restored and didn't solve the problem. Unfortunately I don't remember which. Now I only have one restore point that is pre-problem and that restore point is on a hard drive that I won't have easy access to for a couple of months.

Do you have your information backed up ? If so, you could try an AlienRespawn to take the machine back to factory settings.

I do have the system backed up on an external drive but it will be difficult to access for at least a month.

If you are running Windows 8, reboot with Driver Signature Enforcement disabled and then try installing the USB 3.0 drivers. Windows 8 is notorious for being an absolute piece of crap when it comes to installing "unsigned" drivers.

I'm using Windows 7 so my computer doesn't have the Windows 8 excuse for driver signature error problem.
Alienware support thinks my 3.0 hardware is fried and I am inclined to believe them because it shouldn't be this hard to install a driver. On the other hand, I don't know how it could be friend I never tried to use it. However, this is a replacement mother board and I don't know where Alienware got it or what it has been through.
