    Hi Guys,

Just been speaking with my very good rep and friend. He has told me that the M18x is now available to order with the above gpu's......they arent live on Dell UK yet but he has pricing for them as follows: (pricing is the upgrade cost over base gpu configuration). If you wish to use my rep who does very good deals, let me know.

For you guys in the US and other countries, I am sure they may be available too as some people have already been discussing non-website prices with chat reps etc etc....

Nvidia GTX 580m Sli is £859 exc VAT so total cost around £1,075.00

AMD 6990m Crossfire is £384 exc VAT so total cost around £480.00

These are obviously UK figures so anyone wishing to order with either can shoot me a PM and I can get you in touch mith my rep if you like (for UK & Ireland Residents only im afraid)....I am pretty sure that if you want to order with the above, he can also do a great deal overall, with regards to the total system cost.

Anyway guys, thought I would let you know of their availability....finally, we know how much they are gonna cost in the UK and that both are available....so go get 'em !!!!!

    Cheers
    Stevie. :D

Great news that the 6990m is available. It shall provide good competition to the 580m. Hope to see benchmarks of the two soon.

Just confirmed my order, with this top bloke from dell. Cannot wait to get my machine now. I wanted the fastest card available but the price difference between the two is ridiculous, so i just jumped in and went for the 6990. I just hope there isn't a big performance diff between the 580 and the 6990 as we have no banches on the 6990 as off yet.

What i couldn't get my head around Stevie was the fact the 6990m (£480) was cheaper than the 6970m (£490)...It best not be slower i won't be happy :D

You can sell the 6970s and get the 6990s when available. I wouldn't worry though. You are looking at 5-10% difference in gaming and that won't make much impact at all with any games coming out anytime soon. Upgrading will be way too expensive and not worth marginal increases. Unless you are tyring to figure out a way to send your system back but I am against that but that is only my value. I mean that is a price someone pays for technology.

Some people may wait for the 6990s but you have had the pleasure of gaming on the most powerful rig for the past 30 days...surely that has some price/value in and of itself. Just enjoy your system!

Im not sending the system back.....im happy with it, its running well. If it aint broke......

I may see if I can manage a "swap" of the parts....see if Dell will send me the new cards and I will post 'em back the old ones.

Either way, Im not too devastated, just a bit miffed is all ;)

That's the thing about bleeding edge, you can't stop. You must have the most powerful rig or no rig at all. Lol, I'm not into serious gaming or benching but heck, already thinking about upgrading my system. ..sob...

Exactly, its an addiction for some. Got to have the best, fastest, newest thing, computer hardware i can just about afford to go with that. Good job its not cars i'm into or else i'd be buggered and bankrupt.

I'd imagine the 6990 will be atleast 5/10% faster than the 6970 surely...Which means it will be 5%/10 slower than a 580m, i'm happy with that its (6990) closed the gap for still the same price as a 6970, can't complain.

The 6990M could very well be on par with the 580M if not better. We still know nothing about the clocks.

I am almost 100% sure the 6990 will be the 1122 shader card ichime's just to own if not why that was an ES card and why they stop offering 6970's on sager's :)

Yay, 6990M CF for my new M18x) Hope we don't have to wait another month for the release) Great news, BTW Stevie! The only thing i doubt about is if it is optimized for high OC due to shaders and (probably) clocks increase... it's based on the same core, right?

Can Nvidia afford to not drop their price after this? If the 6990 is on par, or better, and still more than twice as cheap... that makes the Nvidia product poorly placed in the market.

When you say Dell are taking orders for the as yet unreleased 6990M do you mean to say:

1). Dell are taking orders and will build and ship in the usual time period?

2). they are taking advance orders which will be serviced as and when the chip comes available for the AW system?

Ok just finished a long chat with dell UK rep.

He confirmed the 6990m is available ... however could provide NO details on the graphics card. He simply pointed me to the AMD website ... and said that was all he could do.

    he quoted the 6990m XF @ £470.00

I think you are guys are being led up the garden path by overly enthusiastic salesman taking advance orders for a future product.

There is no sign of the 6990M anywhere apart from here.

    Thanks for the kind words!

I did say that it wasnt showing on the website....obviously it is available to manually configure. Most of the info my rep gets me is pretty much spot on. What reason would he have to tell me this? - its not gonna get him any business if he is lying and it would also make him look like a dummy wouldnt it? (Based on the fact he told me this morning that "if I knew of anyone who wanted these components, for me to give them his details so he could make a sale....)

He's in the process of getting some technical details for me - said he will mail me with the full tech spec of each option when he gets it - I will post it up when I get it.....

I dont doubt you Stevie and I know you always act with best intentions.

I wish this to be true and will be amongst one of the first waving an open cheque book. I am sceptical when there is no source of info on this product. It is currently unreleased and not even AMD's own website mentions it.

I believe they are taking orders but can they fulfill them?

I bloody well hope so as i've just made my order today. :D

I very much Dell would go around selling a product to people that they cannot produce. I think they'd be a sh*t house if they starting acting in such a way Jono. Any company would be and it would be all over the web how bad Dell are etc...give companies bad reputations.

    GET THIS !!!!

I just got off the phone with AMD
The 6990m has been available since June 15, 2011. It has been up to the "systems integrator" aka reseller/end product manufacturer as to when they announce them. Secondly I was told that the tech specs aren't available per se. I asked the gentleman, "so we can order the cards, but we can't be told whats on them?" His reply was basically yes. That the cards in their end format vary between system integrators and thus it is up to the system integrator to release the tech specs.

He said to consult Dell. But confirmed that the cards are available.

Of course they are 2 different things! The problem is, for AMD companies like Dell and HP will always have priority over small SI's like us :(

I know this is an alienware forum, but shouldn`t the resellers aka Aikimox know about this GPU especially when they sell Sager as well and they are always first to feature new tech?

No way that Alienware have some sort VIP priority from AMD

Generally, yes but in this particular case it's not so. So far, I've tried all our channels at Dell and Sager with no definite answer. There are no hands-on's and no previews available for the 6990M. Probably because of the incident with the 6970M when ES GPU's ended up in people's systems before/shortly after announcement in addition to preliminary reviews of some systems with ES cards inside. Apparently AMD decided to play it more cautiously from now on.

And yes, Dellienware always has a VIP priority from AMD simply because they buy millions of cards from them annually.

except now we are stuck in a sitch were AMD probably has a comparable or superior card on the market available to order (through Dell UK atm) and we don't have stats on it .... lol. Just sort of the exact opposite end of the spectrum ... the card is there and we know nothing about it.

Now that you mention that you probably right remember the guy who purchased a machine with 2 6970's ES and he didn't know they give him ES's cards until he take the machine apart ? I remember he contact AMD first to check if that was true and they confirm that to him

Probably AMD don't want to see more cases like this so they give priority to DELL with the release of this card

I see although I don`t understand why any OEMs will get priority with news about new GPUs. Priority with shipments I could understand but I thought AMD treated their customers the same about news. Especially Sager which is pretty big too

Hi all, what a strange coincidence, first rep i spoke to would not tell me a thing about the new cards for the UK but then by some chance i spoke to the same rep as Stevie and have been told exactly the same thing, and i was quoted a build time of no more than 2 weeks and perhaps even sooner. Also i asked about the the 580M for the M17X and was told it will be £420 upgrade price. I asked him why they dont show in the build page on the webite but he said to email him the spec im looking for and the can add the new cards his end. Amazing guy as well, very helpful and happy to answer all my questions.

Well there goes my plans for the crossfire 6970m spec out of the window. I'd be interested in seeing how much of a performance difference it will make and if there will be any other changes to the m18x.

Stevie could you give me the details of your rep? I'd love to finally get a good m18x ordered. Thanks.
